Running around reservoir water - incorrect elevation gain

Hello,

I own Garmin Fenix 7x solar. There are a few reservoirs near my living area (lenght from 350 to 1k). I often do a running workout around those reservoirs as the terrain is flat. However, usually my garmin shows quite a high elevation gain (diff for 2-5 meter multiplied by number of circles that I have done during the run). When I correct elevation in strava it shows 0 (which makes sense as the terrain is flat).

Please let me know if you have observed similar issues and if there is any setup Change which might be done to improve accuracy of altimeter.

  • When I first started using my Fenix 7X (coming from an Enduro) was getting erratic and inconsistent Total Ascent numbers from my trail runs and occasional road runs. I had the same issue with the Enduro and it took a very long time before I finally figured out how to prevent the issues from happening. Try this on your next few runs, use a Buff like in the second pic to prevent the barometer opening from sweat and wind that can cause interference, particularly if you're wearing the watch on your left hand.

I had a group of friends do the same on many occasions during our training runs and with the Buff, our Total Ascent differences were within 30-40m apart, without which the differences could go as high as 100m or more off.
