Can I charge my Fenix 7x during an activity with a powerbank?

I just started an actiivity on my Fenix 7x (Sapphire solar) and connected it with my laptop.  The activity was immediately stopped.  Does anyone know if the activity would also be stopped if I use a powerbank?

  • For the purpose of testing I started a Treadmill activity, letting it run for 30 seconds before connecting the 7X SS to a Duracell PB1 3350mAh powerbank, the activity kept going—used both Garmin and MTP USB Modes, no difference. Before the 7X, I had the Fenix 3HR and would tether to a small powerbank in all ultra races that took more than 12 hours to complete, worked OK.

  • I think the issue you had is using the laptop as that includes a data connection for syncing. As jan.shim notes, it should work just fine with a power pack (other than the need to access the bottom of the watch to plug it in).

  • I already thought it would be something like that.  Just wanted to be sure a powerbank would work before buying one.

  • If you have an externally powered USB hub you can see the difference.  Disconnect the hub from the computer and then plug you watch into the hub and the charging status field is shown just on the upper portion of the screen.  I'm not actually sure if you can hide this field as it will cover up the upper data field on the data screen you are using for the activity.  it disappears briefly if you change data screens. maybe someone else can help with this although it is just a minor inconvenience IMO.
