GPS track shows movement when I'm stopped - hiking - Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar

I've noticed that when I'm in a hiking activity and stop for a while (to eat or take pictures) but don't pause my activity, my watch continues to gain distance. Yesterday, we had a mile-ish section that we had to bushwhack through dense cover, so there was a lot of stopping and consulting the map, and generally slow going. By the time we got out of that section, I had gained half a mile on my husband, who has the Instinct 2. In comparing our tracks later, it looks like his GPS was lost quite a lot, and he had a lot of straight line connections from point to point. Mine had what I would describe as "bounces," and when I would stop, the GPS track continued to record over here, then there, making little boxes and triangles around where I was stopped. I know for sure this happened when we stopped at a waterfall because I walked to the fall and stopped to take pictures, then walked directly back out, and the track shows me moving all over the general area. This happened again when my husband stopped to fish, and I stood in one place because there was little room to move about on the rocks, and my track bounces all over.

I never had this issue with the Fenix 6 I previously had, and in hiking with my sister a few weeks ago (who now has my old 6), my 7 gained distance on her 6 after we had stopped on a summit to take pictures.

I have all available GPS turned on, I have it set to record every second.

Is there a setting I need to tweak, or is there an issue here with my GPS? It hasn't acted this way the entire time I've had it, but started after a couple months of getting it. During hiking activities, it's been gaining .25 to .50 miles even compared to routes that I previously have recorded with this watch.
