HRM Plus Pro vs Fenix 7s

Not sure where to ask, so let me try here. On my recent run I was wearing HRM Plus Pro. DIdn’t check if the connection was established with my Fenix 7S, and went straight ahead. During the run, out of curiosity, I checked the back of the watch – the green lights were blinking. I figured – OK, the strap didn’t connect, I’ll still have the quite accurate HR and running dynamics from the wrist. Syncing the watch with the phone back home the strap showed in the summary, with all the running dynamics not yet available from the wrist on the Fenix. So what happened? The strap was recording the whole time, but it didn’t show live on my watch? Puzzling.

Strap always have priority and watch will should communicate connecting with it when you open activity.
Build in sensor might be not switched of, for example Garmin Pay checks that way are you still wearing…

Yes.
But you always could change it if you forgot the strap, or have second activity with different…

I've been having connection issues with my hrm plus pro as well. I'm wondering and thinking of turning off bluetooth on my phone prior to putting the strap on, because the strap def connects to my phone (notification) as soon as I put it on. I don't run with phone, but maybe it interferes with then connecting to watch? who knows, but disappointing.

Strap always have priority and watch will should communicate connecting with it when you open activity.
Build in sensor might be not switched of, for example Garmin Pay checks that way are you still wearing your watch.
You also could set power mode for activity to jacket mode and then you will be sure that watch is using external sensor as in this mode sensor build in will be switched off by default.

Sensor will turn off when you start an acitivity with your chest-strap. As Adam said Strap have priority

With Garmin Pay active, the Wrist HR sensor will remain on to determine if the watch has been removed to reset the PIN entry requirement.

I only use the ANT+ connection, for the exact reason you mentioned, to not to confuse my phone

That didn't happen. And yet I can clearly see all the chest strap RD data.

This might be it, but it's the first it has ever happened. Usually it goes like this - blinking lights till i press go - activity starts and the HR data is transmitted from the strap.

The strap doesn't seem to always have priority:

The "heart rate" which is also shown in the connect app is almost 100% the same as the wrist heart rate, which is very wrong especially at the beginning of the run where it was too low with the wrist.

Can I configure somewhere to have the HRM overwrite the wrist values?

I just forced the fenix to download the data from the HRM for this activity: that created an additional running activity with the HRM data in connect and I deleted the other one.

I don't get the priority here. I another activity heart rate and external heart were identical while wrist was very different...

Disable dynamic source switching, change power profile for run activity to jacket mode and you always should have HR data from external sensor.

Jacket mode would mean that I have to wear the hrm every time for that type of activity, right?

I'd like to to favor it, when it's used but still have the wrist as fallback if I forget the strap.
