I've had my 7S Saff Solar since last June. I think it's great for recording fitness activities, but I'm frustrated with the scaling of the sleep scoring and how this impacts other metrics such as training readiness, body battery, and suggested workouts. For example, for sleep stress, why is the cutoff between "fair" and "good" 15? On my best, most restful nights, my sleep stress is in the upper teens. Excellent for me, but not good enough for Garmin. And then how does each of the sleep components get weighted for the final sleep score? I've had nights where I've gotten "excellent" in every component except sleep stress (fair), and have gotten a "fair" overall sleep score, when I know I've slept very well and wake up feeling great. Then that fair rating results in a lower training readiness score, lower body battery, and typically just a base or recovery suggested workout.
I get the impression that these scales, especially for sleep stress, were calibrated against young, healthy, fit athletes. But I'm in my early 60s, and not an athlete - just someone who wants to be fit and heathy. If HRV naturally declines as one ages, shouldn't the sleep stress score (which incorporates HRV and HR in its calculation) be controlled or scaled according to age?
I'm just getting very discouraged by always seeing fair sleep scores when I know I've slept well. In the end, I just listen to my own body.
Does anyone else (especially those in their 50s, 60s, and beyond) experience this?
