Fenix 7 experiencing a random restart during activity with no apparent cause.

Hi, my Fenix 7 is  restarting randomly during activity. Software 11.28. Typically crashes and reboots after 15 - 50 minutes of activity. I encounter crash and rebot at about 70 % of 1 - hour activities. After self - restart it comes back to screen where I can resume interrupted activity. I did factory reset, reinstalled maps, removed all non-garmin apps and nothing changed. Any ideas what can be done about it ?

  • I am sorry there is an issue. 

    Please try the following:

    - Ensure your last activity has been synced so you do not lose any activity not synced.

    - Directly connect your watch through your computer. If you feel comfortable, only delete your prior synced activities in your Activity folder.

    - If the random restarting still happens, reset your watch through the System > Reset menu.

    If your issue continues, please reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region.

  • I stil face the issue. I wrote to my local support but they didn't reply yet. Im a little bit annoyed, today during 2,5 hour bike ride my watch restarted three times. And how about your trouble, vl0ra ?

  • Hi, same here :(. Yes I’m annoyed alot. This is a high end watch, it shouldn’t happen! On friday for 50 min run it restarted twice. Yesterday it restarted  once. It is now more often then before. I wonder did you try Chris’s instructions ? 

  • Yes, I've tried, nothing changed. I'll call our local product support, maybe they will tell me something more. This is my second Fenix 7, first did not restart but had serious problem with barometer. I sent it to seller and had to wait over 3 weeks - finally I got the second one - and this one reboots :(  I would not like to send it and again wait almost month for new one so I hope they will find another solution for this problem...

  • So, some news about my trouble. During conversation with garmin support in poland they asked me to record a video showing the self-restart process. So I mounted go-pro on my bike and recorded it and send it to Garmin support. After that they told me to send watch to service, I send it today and wait. I Hope to get another or repaired watch soon.

  • hope they fix it :/. I still don’t believe it is a hardware problem. After doing Chris’s instructions, yesterday I got my first 1 hour run. It didn’t restart. This week I have 3 more sessions, I hope it won’t repeat (fingers crossed Fingers crossed tone1) . let’s see 

  • Lets hope they can find something. I had a random reboot too during skiing last week. After it booted up again it asked me to resume, so I probably don't miss too much. Support also told me to reset it but that's too much of a hassle. Did the contents of the errorfile you pasted help you or garmin out in any way?

  • Hi, today, after 9 days I received factory new watch from garmin service. Hope this one (third !) will work fine !

  • I'm getting a similar issue in my Fenix 7 where it just randomly reboots itself, but only in the last few days, the issue only started after a pool swim I did and I thought it might be some moisture that might have leaked into the watch that was interfering with the hardware causing it to reboot. I'm using beta firmware 13.09, but I've had that on my watch over a week now but the rebooting issue only happened immediately after my pool swim at the weekend when I was saving the activity the watch just rebooted before it could save.

    And as well as rebooting, the watch does an odd thing where it keeps trying to access the controls menu which is usually accessed by long pressing the top left button and it keeps trying to open Assistance even though no buttons are being pressed on the watch and with touch off, it even does this while the watch it lying flat on a table and it'll then eventually reboot after a minute or two.

    I reached out to Garmin Support and they suggested that I return it for a replacement, but I've a big event coming up soon and I know from previous times that the process of replacement can take up to 6 weeks, I'd rather somehow figure out how to fix it myself first before sending it back for a replacement. So I'm not sure if it's a firmware bug in the watch or a hardware issue as I've had the watch for a year without issue, but the pool swim at the weekend was my first pool swim with the watch as I'm mainly a runner and cyclist.
