Fenix 7s Touch Screen Issue and Unexpected behavior

I'm wondering whether certain behaviors are expected in the 7s model or not. There are two issues that I would like to address:

Firstly, I watched the official video on the 7 series and noticed that if you fully close your watch with your palm, it brings you back to the watch face. (You can see this demonstrated in the video here: https://youtu.be/Fgq6LM2NqNo at 2:55 to 3:00). However, I am experiencing some issues that this function doesn't work with mine.

Secondly, I have noticed that the touchscreen does not work properly when I press the upper right side of the watch when renaming a folder.

I purchased the Fenix 7S Solar Sapphire model from a local store approximately two months ago. I brought the watch to the store and asked the staff whether these issues are expected, and they said that they were. However, I am not entirely convinced that this is correct. I am hoping that someone who has the same model can provide some insight as to whether these issues are indeed normal.

This is my actual watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V74wH-7OR6o

I've updated the firmware to latest version: 10.44

  • I have the exact same watch (well in bronze) but the 7s ss.

From your video alone, I would say something definitely looks wrong with the touch responsiveness. Namely, the scrolling speed is astronomically faster on my and the general responsiveness.

The Palm gesture to return to the home screen works extremely well I find. I would say 9 out of 10 times. And when it doesn't, it's typically not covering enough of the screen.

Do you still see this after restarting the watch and I assume it has the latest software? Though this doesn't seem to be an issue with that.

I would open up for a support ticket and show them the video.

  • The real problem may be the screen protector.

  • Ahh, was there one Grinning subtle if so.

I actually have a friend who has a screen protector on the Fenix 7. Now that you mention it, the touch screen performs essentially exactly as you showed. He doesn't care because he never uses the touch screen.

Side note, I've had to watch for about 4 months now. And I bang it up quite a bit. Personally, I do not see the need for a screen protector. If anything the bezel is the bigger concern. And I do have some small chips in it, but as many say it gives a character.

  • I knew it! Thank you for your answer and your side note. However, the staff denied it and said that "this feature does not come in the 7s model." about the palm gesture.

    • I have already tried restarting the watch and even performed a hard reset, but the problem persists.
    • Initially, I added a screen protector as a second layer of protection only. The first time I bought the watch, I tried using it without the screen protector, but I thought the touch responsiveness issue was a software problem, so I didn't bother to ask the staff here, assuming that they would give the same response.

Another question, where can I get confirmation from official Garmin? I couldn't find any support email to convince the local staff in here as the staff clearly didn't know what they were talking about.

  • Question, can you confirm if it has a screen protector of not ?  If so I highly suggest taking it off to see how it performs without it.

To answer your question though, it's right in the official manual Slight smile

"cover the screen with your palm to return to the watch face and turn down the screen brightness."

Assuming no screen protector, I would open up a ticket directly with garmin support, forgot about the store. In my experience (and I've had quite a bit) they are excellent.

  • Yes, I just took my screen protector off and the behavior still the same.

Thank you for the link reference.

It's so tricky to find support page on Garmin's official website Grimacing, but now i got it and I will send them the video and the issue about my watch. Thank you and really appreciate for your help! I will get back here with an update from Garmin.

  • Garmin just replaced my watch with a new unit. Now, the features that I had issues with before are working perfectly.

  • Enabling and Disabling the Touchscreen

    • Hold DOWN and START.
    • Hold LIGHT, and select .
    • Hold MENU, select System > Touch, and select an option.
