What does Fenix 8 / Tactix 8 Need To Have To Make You Upgrade?

all the 965 talk got me thinking about the future of fenix/tactix and what it would take to get me to upgrade. garmin has never disappointed me before and i don't expect them to in the future, but what to expect? for me it would be a pretty short list. i just need a new sensor. if there's not a new optical sensor with improved accuracy, i see no reason to upgrade as that is easily the most important aspect of the watch. ecg would be nice, i'd prefer to NOT have amoled (although battery with mips is nowhere near what garmin promises) and i don't really need wireless charging either (and it's WILDLY inefficient). i'd love to see better solar charging (better efficiency from the panels) or maybe something radical like flexible panels on the watch band. for tactix i'd like to see something over the top like emp-resistance. in the end though it would come down to elevate 5...

  • It doesn't appear to be fixed to me. Here is a screenshot from FitFileViewer that shows a course that I created yesterday, synced it to the watch with turn notifications enabled, then copied it from the watch.

I have not tried myself, but people were reporting that it improved quite a bit after the last quarterly update. But it might have been solved on Firmware side though. Since the distance to the "next fork" is now calculated by the watch (there is a data field for that), I guess it would be quite easy for the watch to filter out turn prompts that are not in proximity to a fork. Of course all of this would not have influence on missing turn prompts for Y- forks.

  • Only 47mm and 51mm.

    and a 43mm Version.

  • Not according to this site which is always well informed about Garmin. Lets wait and see.

  • Lets wait and see.

    Exactly. Hopefully on August 27th

  • Yep, it really looks like that. 5k Runner quotes two reliable sources and now the Ukrainian Garmin site has also briefly listed the new models. The leaks and rumors seem consistent in that the 8s will be AMOLED with microphone and such, the E a MIP (apparently more 7 than 7 Pro). And the Enduro also with MIP.

Edit: I'm curious to see if the 8 supposedly will get scuba diving features and if yes, weather or not Garmin will still advice to "Avoid pressing the buttons under water."

  • The one feature I'm realistically looking for in the "8 Series" watches is water resistant buttons as found in the Descent Series watches.

    Fingers crossed Fingers crossed

  • From other leak it looks that 8 will have scuba dive to 40 meters, more probably only one gas and now air integration. I think to compete with Apple or Huawei.
    we will see.

  • Fyki two days ago all the posts in this thread mentioning the word “leaks” and/or the new Garmin outdoors watch names other than Fenix  8 were either deleted or partly deleted.

We will see whether 48 hours later the philosophy of the mods is different or not.
