Why not using the "Map" feature on the watch? Its the easiest way to use the map without recording an activity, therefore its name!
You should be good using the Explore APP with your watch.
I am unaware of what you are stating ever being an issue nor can I find any reports made worldwide that was reported to Product Support that are…
navigation is an activity, i guess you can discard it after finishing - which will mean it wont be recorded.
gps position writing consumes more energy....
how are u going to get your location on the map, without using gps signal?
i mean yeah i can find myself on the map on watch,
but once u walk where u want to, how is watch going to know where are u going etc- without using gps?
Reading ur gps position is one thing. Writting ur gps position to memory is another thing.
I'm talking about recording an activity not gps use...
Sometimes I use the maps as a car nav and it's very annoying to discard the activity every time.
Use the Navigate profile. Select Navigate from the profile list. The first screen that comes up is a list of navigation selections. Select what you want to nav. Select Go To/Do Course/etc. The watch will start navigating. Just don't press the Start/Stop button to record the activity.
Another option to be aware of that many outdoor watch owners are not aware exists, you can download our free Garmin Explore APP to an Android or iPhone. Within the APP, you can then download maps for your region using Wi-Fi. When you are out using your watch and want to see maps on your phone instead, open the Explore APP to see your position. Even if you are outside of cellular connectivity with your smartphone, the maps are downloaded to use the APP offline on your phone. Your phone will act as a computer to allow you to use the Explore APP. You can easily change between map layers within the APP too.
Otherwise, the Navigate feature on your watch is the answer to your question that others have mentioned too.

Yeah it's very unfortunate when you have every tools available on the watch (POI , full map capabilities, route type selection....) and still you can't use it properly
You could, just don’t want to do this like Garmin build it.
It is not navigation device, it is sport watch with a lot of function, navigation including.
But main purpose of it is to track your activity not do navigation.
If you want to do navigation buy something what is designeted to do it.
