Enable voice prompts played on the watch itself

Hope someone can help me wit this one:

I like voice prompts per lap, saying e.g. "Lap 3, seven thirty nine" (being 55 years old I not that fast anymore...). Special challenge: I want this prompt to be played by the watch itself - no headphones, no phone, no separate speaker.

I tried as many combinations of "audio prompts", "auto lap", "distance alert", as I could, both in general setting and in my key activity = Trail Run.
According to my settings, the watch will vibrate and/or beep (e.g. per lap or per distance, whatever the difference might be).
However, it will not speak to me...

Even more frustrating: this was working until I must have inadvertently changed something, now I am unable to get it back.
Admittedly the watch speaker volume seems limited, but when I was by myself on the trail this was quite ok.

--> Any hints which combination of settings on the watch or my phone might activate voice prompts spoken by the watch?

Thanks!

  • The watch speaker does not support voice prompts.

  • There's no actual speaker on the watch. Just a 'beeping' thingy, like a PC speaker built-in in the '80s and '90s or like it still looks in normal electronic watches with alarm and timer feature. Not enough bits supported to play any reasonable, multi-tone music or speech that would be recognizable. Unless you 'speak' and understand R2-D2 (actually R2-D2 has more tones supported ;)), there's no go here. Fenix 8 might be the one to bring phone calls into the watch, along with the ECG, so maybe then we'd have a microphone and proper speaker. For now - no way hombre... Not on this Fenix line.
