Either its broken or you are doing something wrong.

I have owned a 6X and now a 7XSS and I have never had a track like that. My tracks have always been spot on.

What I might be doing wrong

Every second recording does not change anything at all about accuracy. I don't know why the myth is still alive. 

Update your software to the actual 11.xx version and set your GPS to All+Multiband. Try again. 

If problems persist, contact support. 

It's not problem with firmware version.

You would be better served (and more efficient) by talking with Garmin support directly. 

They will probably have you reboot watch and see if that helps

Then reset watch to default and set up as new to see if that fixes anything. 

If watch was updated directly from watch menu system you may want to update using Garmin express software from a computer. When you update from the watch directly certain modules like GPS is not updated immediately. So you could have ab older module that hasn't updated. 

Today the watch has updated
I'll probably go skiing tomorrow and let you know if anything has changed
