Using Hike app as well as dog tracking function

Hi all, newbie to all things Garmin Fenix here and just wondering if anyone can give me an answer.  I have a dog tracking garmin set up for my tracking dog.  I use the hike app in the phone to record my outings but i am wondering if i can use the dog tracking function in the watch at the same time as the hike function.

I have paired the watch with the collar as per the instructions and it has been added as a sensor.  If i record my hike and at some point during the hike i need to track my dog will it lose the hike details or will the dog track function just run alongside?

    During a Hike activity:

    1. Long-press the Back button to return to the watchface (the Hike will continue recording in the background)
    2. Use the up/down buttons to scroll through the widgets and open the Dog Tracking widget.
    3. When you're done, press Back to return to the watchface
    4. Press Start to return to the Hike activity.

    It shouldn't interrupt your Hike activity recording at all, but fyi, one user has brought up (about 5,000 times now) that opening a ConnectIQ widget during an activity recording can interrupt the GPS, but I don't believe the dog tracking widget will have that issue since it is built in to the watch.
