Night Sleep Data gets replaced by daytime "sleep"

Chris from Garmin again locked the previous thread also the problem is far from solved. So here is a new thread.

The issue is that in some cases a normal sleep recording is replaced by a very short nap and totally screws all connecting data like the recovery status.

Garmin now says that this is by design, which makes no sense at all.

Correct. Engineering has asked for new examples on v11.28 after minor changes made to sleep. Thank you for creating a new thread.

  • I have suggested this before but will say it again. Since Watch only seems to be able to save one sleep a day then it should save the best sleep for the day. Hey, Garmin why not use the sleep score to decide which sleep to save. Keep the sleep with the highest score.

As I understand it a higher sleep score will improve your training readiness as well as recovery times compared to a very low score.

This would be such a simple fix that would solve the issue with naps replace good nights sleep as well allow good sleeps during daytime for those working in shifts.

  • Garmin, please please fix this issue.
I have periods of only 1 hour l 38 minutes overwrite  my night's sleep, just had one yesterday of 2 hours 3 minutes replace my sleep.

What is so damn hard about fixing this issue?

Garmin has been extremely lax about addressing this issue, you keep saying it should work when it obviously does not.
This had been going on far too long, at least remove sleep history from training readiness if you can't figure out how to fix this.

  • your fenix 7 screen border has been scratched a lot, do you want to fix it?

  •   Problem with not overwrite nights sleep with naps less than 3 hours is NOT SOLVED in 11.28. Yesterday I was working from home and my watch registered a 2:57h sleep between 8:23-11:50 while working that replaced my very good sleep and changed my training readiness and thus also the planned daily suggestions that I could not get back Disappointed

I discovered that watch was in sleep mode around 15:30 and then disabled the sleep mode. However watch refused to get back to the normal watch face. Restarting it did not help. Had to enable sleep mode again and directly disable it again for the watch to go back to the normal watch face.

A question to the Garmin support, are there any progress in this matter?, are the developers listen to the users? nothing has happened for a long time now, problem has existed for very long now.

Why do I even buy a Garmin. The only reason for me to use a Garmin over Apple is the analysis and support you got for your training, but if the data is not reliable or is garbish like it is for the sleep data then the output will also be garbish as well, and what benefits do I get from the watch then!!!

I have payed a lot for this watch, and I expect it to work properly. As a company (Garmin) your HIGHEST priority should be to FIX the bugs (like this one) before even start to think of adding more features. What benefit do we, the users, have of more features if the data that lies the ground for them is not reliable or correct. I start to consider to no longer wear the watch 24/7 any more and instead wear an apple watch that is much more reliable. From that point the step to not buy another Garmin watch in future is not far away.

The quality of your software really sucks for the moment!

Garmin, If you want to keep your customers you have to prioritize to fix the bugs so that we can rely on the data otherwise I do not see any point of continue to use your products

  • Maybe you should not have marked issue as solved. Now it looks like it is no longer an issue, but problem is still present on 11.28. I suggest you edit your post and uncheck the "Suggest as an answer"

  • you should not have marked issue as solved

Please keep in mind, I am a messenger being advised when an issue is resolved. I am sorry the issue is not resolved. Thank you for your report. Have a good day.

  • We continue to work on improving sleep detection.

  • I discovered that watch was in sleep mode around 15:30

Is this new? I didn't observe earlier that the watch starting detecting sleep would turn on sleep mode. In fact, I complained that sometimes, there was no way for the user to see that the watch had started to track sleep... This would be a good development.

Chris, I replied to Z to not have marked “suggest as answer” to this thread since then it might look like this issue brought up in this new thread now is solved. It had nothing to do that you marked the former thread as solved and told us to create this new thread if issue still existed on 11.28 which it does.

With that said. Thanks for the update and I really hope that product management and developers at this point understands the severity of this problem and have focus on fixing the bug.

If I can’t rely on the data then I will definitely not buy another Garmin watch when time to replace it; I will not be surprised if more people think this way.

As for now, I have decided to not replace my Edge with a newer one since the TrueUp works in such bad way, but that is another topic. Just saying that bad SW not getting the things that matters work in a correct way will result in that company will start losing money.

  • If your watch is recording short amounts of sleep during the day for under 3 hours

It is good if this problem will be solved but that will still not solve the root issue with “day time sleep replace better night sleep”

As pointed out earlier in this thread with example I had a bad night sleep thus I took a nap that was slightly above the 3 hour limit but still worse than the night’s sleep. These worse daytime sleep replaced the better sleep I had during night and then messed up my training readiness and suggested daily workout.

I had planned for a shorter nap but I was so tired so it got a little bit longer than wanted. Fixing the 3 hour nap limit would still have caused my night’s sleep to be overwritten.

What we ask for is to NEVER overwrite better sleep with worse sleep during the same day regardless of the length of the sleep.
