Garmin Golf hole sequencing

Moved from Vivoactive 4 to Garmin 7+ Solar.

Garmin Golf has weird problem of not prompting for the score upon completion of the hole on the green.

I have played the same golf course on my Vivoactive 4 and it worked very well, Fenix 7 seems to be failing to recognise reaching the green.

I need to manually choose the scorecard to mark my result, then go for the 'change hole' option, which is very annoying.

Anybody experienced similar problem and if so and troubleshooting I should look at?

Firmware 11.25

Thanks, Dom

  • Similar problem here in that my 7X Sapphire Solar often fails to prompt me for a score and remains on the previous hole I played even if I'm on the next tee box.  Very frustrating.  I just transitioned from a Fenix 5 which never had this issue.  In fact, upon reaching the green the old watch would automatically prompt me for a score.  The new watch does not prompt me (if it prompts me at all) until I'm nearly to the next tee box.

I have yet to find a work around.

  • Hello, there are changes to the scoring prompt on newer devices with CoureView to extend access to certain golf features when on the green at the end of each hole. When on or leaving the green, there is now a pencil icon available to select from the CourseView screen, and tapping will then reveal the scoring prompt to enter prior to teeing off on the next hole.

The scoring prompt will also appear once you have left the green, when proceeding away to the tee box on the next hole. If you have left the green, and are not seeing the scoring prompt appear, this may occur depending on course layout if you are not within close enough proximity to the furthest tee box back on the next hole.

Keep in mind that if you have big number mode enabled in the Golf Settings menu, you will not see the pencil icon on from the green view screen that automatically shows when you are on the green.

To reference more information on the changes made to scoring prompt, refer to the Adjustment to Scoring Prompt on Compatible Approach Devices

  • Thanks for the quick reply Cody.  I’ll give your recommendations a try and see if I can get better results.  Thanks again!

  • Hi Cody, I have a similar problem on my Fenix 6 pro Solar. When I get to the green it does not prompt me for the score and when I move to the next hole it does not automatically change holes I have to do it manually which is quite tiring concentrating on the golf game and having to manually do this.
Your advice above does not work for the fenix 6 pro solar.... Please advice how I should go about it to have it automatically change holes. NB I have big numbers mode turned off.
    Please assist David

  • Make sure that Big Numbers mode is not showing enabled within the Golf Settings menu. If that is enabled, the map next to the distances is removed, and the scoring prompt with the pencil does not appear for the user to prompt the score and stat tracking menus from appearing after putting on the green.

  • I just updated my Fenix 6 software and loaded new maps earlier this week and now after using the golf app successfully for the past 3 years; I am having the problem described in this thread.  Big number is not showing (off) and I am not seeing an edit "option/button" when I am on the green or transitioning to the next tee.  help or clarify your earlier fixes described above.

  • Depending on the model golf features are being used on, can vary with how score is kept during rounds of golf using the device.

For the fenix 6, the steps below are directly from the online manual on how to keep score:

    1. From the hole information screen, press and hold the UP/MENU button .
    2. Select Scorecard.

The scorecard appears when you are on the green.

    3. Press UP or DOWN to scroll through the holes.
    4. Press  to select a hole.
    5. Press UP or DOWN to set the score.

      Your total score is updated.

  • Actually, that does not address my issue.  However, I did solve the problem.  I shut down the watch waited about 2 minutes and then restarted.  Everything no works again.

  • It was unclear if you were referring to the keeping score as designed through the watch (which is how score is kept and then transferred to the Garmin Golf app after the round) or if you were referring to the Live Scoring feature (which allows the watch to keep score on the Garmin Golf app live throughout the round).

Glad to see you got your concern figured out.
