Tactix 7 Pro - timer and storm alarms uses sound, but settings are only for vibration

Hi,

Found it very annoying, when you use timer or get a storm alarm and the watch settings are on silent (only vibration), but still the watch gives both alarms, vibration AND sound. When you need to be silent, you want to be silent and you should be able to trust for the settings. So much about tactic watch...

Is it a bug or do I miss something setting here?

  • At least with my T7AB there is no problem with sound & vibrations settings, I get it as I wanted: sound no sound, optical only. Can't say for the storm alarms with 10.44, didn't get any with 1044. Before it worked.

Storm alarms imho should follow the rules set in system -> sounds & vibration. If everything there is set to off or vibration only I'd consider it a bug.

Timer (as alarm) sounds however are to be customized in timer settings and are maybe not that easy to be found: you have to set the time, confirm via check mark which will change to the screen where you can start the timer. There you find left at 9 o'clock three dots -> go into this menu using the "up" button and THERE you cannot only save the timer but also the sound, vibration or combined or silent at all (screen signaling only).

Since you have a T7pro: does your NV-Mode work? Since 10.44 it merely switchs back to the 5% backlight mode with HR swiched off. Way too bright for NVGs, almost hurting your eyes and to be observed from 10 meters away easily. I heard from support that I'm not the only one - case is open. Better to find out about such bugs while you are still at home. As the one with Dual Grid not showing up...see my bug, case also open and confirmed.

  • Hi,

Thank you Erik for your reply. For the timer, it was that I'd missed the option to customize the timer settings. That fixed the "problem". And for the storm alarm, I mixed the sound problem with the timer sound, so no bug or problem there either, just my own "bug". Smiley

What comes to the NV mode, yes it works, but it is way too bright, should be far less back light. I guess, they didn't really tested this option "in the field", just trusted that the 5% will make the job.

  • Did you ever had a chance to try NV-mode with 8.xx or 9.xx? It was no only dimmed but faded to almost no colours and with an very slight green backlight. Even in complete dark barely to be read. And just right with NVGs.

I'm sure now it wasn't tested at all in advance and the only reason for having so few open cases is that most Tac owners don't use it either.

I'd suggest that you open a service call with your local support and send Garmin-Chris a PN. This might help in getting more attention and hopefully a fix asap.

But lets see the positive effect though. The guy 20 meters away with NVGs on can read your screen aloud for you and you don't have to bother with looking at it. Maybe you don't have to bother about all other things as well afterwards though. ;-)

But seriously: only workaround for the moment being: you may wear it but have to switch off backlight altogether so to avoid to enable screaming light inadvertedly. This is not only about not to be seen but about the fact that if you look into the screen with NVGs even at 5% it will ruin your eyesight in darkness at night for minutes by effectively blinding you.

  • Yep, that's true with the backlight/NV-mode. I never got a chance to test NV-mode with earlier software version, so I can't say how it was with them.

But, I can now confirm that there is a bug with the storm alarm. Yesterday I got a storm alarm and yes, there were both, sound and vibration. All the alarm settings were "vibration only, no sound" -mode. Little bit annoying, I'd say.

  • Just the other day I had two  - correct - alarms, pressure was going down here for > 30hPa in 4 days and so I could observe with mine on 10.44 no sound but only vibration.
