garmin fenix 7 with software v2.02 Rel(ff50c49**) E1

Hi all, i hawe in hand garmin fenix 7 solar with software v2.02 Rel(ff50c49**) E1

I try to update them to the new beta but nothing happens, the clock does not see the firmware

The clock was bought at a flea market as non-working, I have not seen such before, I wonder what kind of firmware?

  • I put the file in the Fenix from the PC, everything according to the instructions, but nothing. thanks for the tip, I haven't tried only the beta, I'll try the alpha now

  • If you downloaded a file to your PC it was most probably an alpha version. Betas are installed over the air, not via a downloaded file. Are you sure you used the correct file for your watch model? What you could also try is to use the backdate file in the latest alpha download. Maybe it does not recognize your strange software version and by using the backdate file it might skip this check (but this is pure speculation).

  • Don't work. Maybe some utilities for PC can update it?

  • There is nothing on your watch that identifies it as an official Garmin watch other than the front side of the watch. Your entire backplate being BLANK does not exist even in our early production models. It is most likely, odds 95%+, a fake Garmin.

  • Chris, I had a watch just like the OP's.  It was working great when I developed an issue due to a missing upper o-ring.  Garmin replaced it with a new one under warranty without question, so they certainly thought it to be genuine.

I've had both the old one and the new one apart, and the internals were identical.  I don't know if watches like these are pre-production or something else, but given what I saw inside I didn't see anything that would indicate it wasn't genuine.

  • It is incredibly odd. We always engrave the backplate. I can pull out 17-20 watches out of my desk drawer that I have accumulated the last 10+ years and every single one is engraved. Even the occasional early prototype I might test, is engraved.

Hmmm. It is suspicious but thank you for mentioning you have had one too.

  • It is definitely strange.  I bought mine on eBay, and it was the first I had seen like that.  Recently I saw another seller offering a mix of Garmins with no engravings.  Here's the link in case you are curious:

Specifically, check out the third photo.

  • What are the odds an "Ebay" post would have 5 watches with zero engravings on the back? hmm. Thinking

It would be one thing if I saw one with no engravings in the last 3-4 generations but I have not even once. We all wear the latest watch in the office and those of us who have been with Garmin a long time, we have every generation. My Fenix 1 and Fenix 2 both stopped working in 2020-2021 but I am reasonably certain they had a little engraving on them. Nowhere near as much as what you will see now but there was engraving on their back too.

  • Yeah, and if you check the seller's sold listings there are others.  For example, this 7X Solar with no engravings and running 1.10 FW.

Maybe there is some 'moonlighting' going on at the factory in China or wherever these are being produced.

  • It is so highly unlikely they came from our production so I believe they are fake. Certainly Buyer Beware buying from Ebay.
