Morning Report ALWAYS terminates sleep (Fenix 7), seems like a glaring bug?

The new report is nifty, but frustrating, at the same time.  I'm on 10.43, just did a cable-sync yesterday, no updates.

I used to look at my watch if I awoke, and if it was much earlier than typical, and it would handle this NP, if I rolled over and went back to sleep for a bit, until my alarm.

Now, once I touch the face or hit the button for the light, to view the time, that's it, it will not track sleep past that point.  I'm sure that's because the (Morning Report) algorithm is currently a one-and-done thing, but this seems like a pretty glaring bug.  It also seems to sort of "tank" the rest of my numbers, like Body Battery, which "peaks" at the time I check the watch (the first wakeup), and goes downhill from there (even if I sleep for say another 90 minutes), and sleep tracking is hosed as well.

Before the Morning Report, this was (mostly) a non-issue, or perhaps a once-or-twice-a-month issue, where sleep would get hosed, if I touched a button or the face, earlier on.

For now, I'm going to disable the report, and hope that this gets fixed (perhaps a Garmin Support person will catch this post).

Any thoughts on how to have this work better, with the existing MR and current f/w are welcome, thanks.

  • That's odd... I'm also on 10.43 and recently one morning I woke up, went through all pages of the morning report (did not dismiss it by back button or gesture), got out of bed, moved around for about 10 minutes and went back to sleep for another 1h30m and it still registered as sleep; it didn't cut off recording immediately after viewing the morning report.

  • That is odd.

I've had this happen 3 times for sure since the update (maybe 15 days ago), that I can remember distinctly, so it's not just a single instance, for me.  I'm certain I didn't dismiss it this AM, and at least one of the other times, I just flipped up/down, although I possibly hit the illumination button, not sure about that part...

I would reach out to support, but I'm sure they'll just want me to full-reset it, which is a giant pain, as I've got a bunch of customizations (for various custom activities and a few for the face/widgets), so I'm avoiding that, for now.

The report is handy, but not that handy, I'd much rather not wonder if it's going to hose the tracking part.

  • I tried it again this morning, viewed the morning report at 7:15, messed with the watch a bit by going through widgets, got up for a few minutes, and went back to bed; sleep was still detected until 8:41.

Maybe check your sleep window, afaik sleep is not detected is you're outside the sleep window. Mine is set to 22 - 08 and sleep mode is still on when I return to sleep, maybe that's also a factor.

  • Do you have HRV status enabled in the report? In order to process HRV status the watch has to leave sleep mode. Even if you try to access the HRV widget during sleep, you are prompted to end sleep mode to view the data.

  • My morning report list: sleep, body battery, hrv (still determining baseline), steps, weather.

  • I would find it strange behavior if the HRV data in the the Morning Report required different criteria from the widget in order to access it. But that’s just me

  • "Hello, I'm using a Fenix 7X SS. The software version is 17.28. After the latest update, the morning report started coming in very late.
I wake up and hours pass. The morning report is displayed on the screen afterwards.
When I wake up and want to enter the activity menu and start a sport, the device still thinks I'm asleep.
Also, sleep mode is set to be active only between 23:59 and 00:01. In other words, I set it to only 2 minutes. (I can't turn it off completely) Because I don't want the device to be in sleep mode when I enter night activities and spontaneous applications.
Are you experiencing a similar problem? What can I do to solve it?
    Could you please support me?"

  • I ended up just disabling the Morning Report feature, seemed like more trouble than what it's worth, for me anyway.

On the sleep hours and "spontaneous late night stuff", I just set mine 12A-8A, for a baseline, and if It kicks in I simply disable it for that period/night.  This seems to work pretty well for me over quite a few months now.
