Fenix 7 solar battery life

A question for garmin 7 solar users how much should the battery last after taking it out of the box (standard settings). I recently bought it and I have the impression that it lasts a short time, namely about 11 days, including about 5 runs for an hour. When i charge watch on screen is displayed 25 days but it never last that long.

  • Im getting about the same or even a bit less with the same usage. Ok i use BT music during runs so that cuts it a bit, but I max out about 7 days...No training gets me 11 days max! All stock, no extra fields, watch faces or similar

The "estimate" battery life is just a complete fraud! Unless a day has 35h, than its ok! Rofl

  • Guys, go and buy an Apple „Ultra“ watch… than you can complain about battery life, while charging your watch every day. ;-)

Just kidding. I‘m quite happy with the battery life of the 7X. 10h of running per week, with highest GPS accuracy settings, it lasts around 2 weeks. But i‘ve disabled the permanent BT connection to my smart phone.

    Happy running
    Enrico

  • Estimates are pretty accurate for a pure smartwatch use. Any music playback, GPS activity, flashlight (on the X size) etc. will drain the battery at much higher rate (each hour can cost you a few days of 'smartwatch' only usage).

    Unless a day has 35h

Well, if that would be the case, you'd be getting more time than Garmin declares (e.g. the 7 days you mentioned would in fact be over 10 days (245/24=10,21) Slight smile

I don't let my watch drop below 20 % and usually end charging between 80 and 85 %. In such use scenario, I charge it every 2 weeks on average. With less solar I also use less GPS (not much time for outdoor activity is accompanied by not much motivation to do so during the 'lovely' November weather with first snow, temperatures around 0 Centigrade etc. ;) Still, when I track indoor workouts and send music to headphones... I'd need to charge it twice a week and not every two weeks that I get without GPS and music, still with indoor exercises though. Please also note that MIP display consumes power for each refreshed data. If you keep seconds, heart rate, daily oxygen levels (red LED for it also drains power during the day, so better to keep on it only at night) you'll get significantly less time between charges. And yes, I am happy with the battery life for now. I can estimate the power drain and use time, knowing the actual battery cells' capactiy. It really is pretty efficient. Keep in mind it's less than 500 mAh and lasts for days / weeks, while your phone is probably somewhere between 3000 and 5000 mAh and won't last 2 days. If you use Bluetooth A2DP profile for music, it also drains faster, even with screen off.

Do you have Pulse Ox on all the time? That will give you several days back if you turn it off. Check back through the many, many threads about this with all watches with OHR  and Pulse Ox and you'll see the same comment - disabling Pulse OX gives you much increased battery life.

Pulse Ox used to default to ON out of the box. But after much protesting it now defaults to OFF out of the box...well it should!

  • Don't have Pulse OX on at all. My watch is connected to my phone all the time and receiving notifications. Hard to say how many but about 50-100 per day. As I mentioned, even without any workouts I cant get more than 11days of battery. On average with my use its 7 days and Im completely ok with that. With my vivoactive 4, I was getting 4 with the same use so progress. Was I expecting more for 1k € watch? Yes...18 down to 7 is significant but I do use it a lot, so dont mind that much.

Guess, i could lower the no of notifications, turn off active HR on the watch face but would not expect miracles.

Nobody mentioned what you are getting in terms of battery life and on which settings?

My GPS usage varies from week-to-week ranging anywhere from 10 to 20 hrs of swimming, running and cycling. Sometimes I follow courses other times not. In reality I have no idea what my battery consumption is as I usually charge at least once per week to 100% whether the watch is at 10% or 70% or any other figure.

  • Fenix7s solar here, in my case, last release version 9.36 is normal, predict battery life is 11days ant it is, 10.43, 9.33 have same issue as OP,  battery drain about 15% every day, no workouts. By the way, I have done the soft reset.
