Watch does not return to battery saver mode after workout or sleep

I typically have the watch in battery saver mode throughout the day when not recording an activity. I do not wear the watch during sleep, and since it is not possible to disable sleep mode (I would love this, though!), I just set battery saver to on in the sleep mode settings. But every morning after the sleep schedule ends, the watch turns itself back to normal power mode, and I have to manually turn it back to power save mode. How can I avoid this?

Also, on a related and even glitchier note, if I have battery saver enabled, then record an activity and save it, when I press back from the activity summary screen, it shows the watch face as it appears in battery saver mode as I'd expect, but it is NOT actually in battery saver mode, which is clearly a bug (confirmed by checking the power settings). I have to navigate away from the watch face and then back to it for the regular power mode face to appear. Two issues here - this bug about the wrong watch face being shown immediately after an activity, and also that it it doesn't resume the battery saver mode after an activity when it was enabled beforehand.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

  • Been a bug for months, no news on fixing it either.

  • I do not quite understand why you are using the Battery Saver mode, when you need it all the time (except the activities). That's not the purpose it was designed for. Simply disable all the unneeded features in the device settings, and you do not need to use any Battery Saver mode at all. As for the activities - to allow the using all the sensors that you disabled, assign a different Power Mode to the concerned activity profile.

And if you want to get rid of the sleep mode, set the bed & wake up times one minute apart. You could also try setting both to the same value, but I am unsure of the outcome.

  • I don't always use battery saver mode, but I often do. There are also plenty of times when I want the watch sensors and connectivity all on and running. This isn't a solution.

  • Hi,

I’ve noticed that everytine you press ‘Start’ to go to the activity list, battery save mode turns off and it can’t be turned on while there or during activities. It might be because functions essential for the activities must be working and battery save mode might prevent this (my logic). Regarding the watchface I’ve also noticed that by just opening and closing the activity list. I’ve learned that though it might display low power mode it still turned off battery save mode. Nothing I can do there…

It will also turn off after sleep mode because the settings will understand that you only want Battery Save mode ON during sleep mode. To remedy this I set Baterry Save mode to OFF in sleep mode settings so that when it’s on it stays that way during and after sleep mode.

For the activities you’ll just have to manually turn it on everytime you start, end or just look through the activity menu.

  • I set Baterry Save mode to OFF in sleep mode settings so that when it’s on it stays that way during and after sleep mode.

Interesting that you are seeing this. Last time I tried, the watch did stay in Battery Save mode as sleep started although it was set to OFF for sleep, but manually turned on before sleep.

The reason I noticed this is that I had:

    - turned off wrist HR for battery saver,

    - turn off battery saver for sleep

    - turn on battery saver before I went to bed. I was trying to prevent the watch from detecting fake sleep before I went to bed.

That failed. The wrist HR stayed OFF during the night and no sleep was detected at all ;-(

Maybe I expressed myself wrong since English isn’t my main language, but what you wrote is exactly what I meant.

Before Sleep Mode activates I keep Battery Saver ON—from having activated it manually—and since in Sleep Mode settings it’s turned OFF (picture above), it won’t deactivate once it’s out of that mode.

  • Thanks, that actually works great for the sleep mode issue!

And good to know that you're also encountering the same bug regarding the watch face showing that it's in battery saver mode even when it isn't immediately after perusing the activities menu (assuming battery saver mode was on beforehand). Hopefully it's something they can address soon.

  • Maybe I expressed myself wrong

I don't think you did. You described 2 different cases, and I added another one

    Case 1

"Battery saver turns off when you press the start button".

This is still true with the latest firmware. I have posted a video at the link shared by 4002535

Fenix 7 - Power Manager Battery Saver Mode Problem (v9.33)(v9.36)

    Case 2

"Battery saver doesn't stay ON after sleep, if it was ON before sleep, and set to ON during sleep mode"

    I didn't test this one.

    Case 3

"Battery saver doesn't turn OFF during sleep mode, if it was ON before sleep, but set to OFF for sleep mode"

That is my case. I was trying to disable the WHR right before sleep, but turn it back on during sleep and it didn't work. WHR stayed off during sleep.

  • "Battery saver doesn't turn OFF during sleep mode, if it was ON before sleep, but set to OFF for sleep mode"

You’re right, it was right in my face. Smile To me OFF, instead of a command, was like telling Sleep Mode to leave it as it is. And I saw the video. Never noticed the need for two ‘Start’ presses and back.

    @4002535 Thanks for sharing.
