Translation error restricts functionality of strength training / forced list page

There is still this annoying problem since the redesign of strength training.

The German word for "repetitions" / "Wiederholungen" is too long and pushes the following weight value out of the screen. And yes that is useful information because we usually setup the weight for the next set during pause. It would be way smarter to use the official abbreviation "Wdh."

Here I have reps in a single digit, this barely allows the display of the first digit of the weight on the right border, in this case it would be lovely to be able to read that its 60kg (and not 65) to put on.

Then with double digit reps, the weight is completely off-screen, so that my first though was when this thing was introduced "the person who designed it must have never done weight training, because they forgot to list the weight", but turns out they did not forget, it just does not fit onscreen because of an unnecessary long word.

Additionally it is annoying to be forced back to the "list page", if its pre-plannend training, after every set is done and not remaining on the page I selected manually. Especially as the use of the "list page" at the moment is very limited, but could be improved by using the abbreviation for repetitions so it does actually show the weight of the upcoming set. And showing the countdown of the pause directly instead of having to scroll up every time.

Two easy adjustments to make it useful, active counter right in the middle (no scrolling needed), "Repetitions" = "Reps" giving enough space to show the weight and move it a little inwards at the bottom to be able to read the number of reps too.

Or just don't force us back to list view after each lap button press and stay on the page the user selected to use.

  • Garmin is not very good at it

Well for me the VA3 had a good enough app. Rep entry is way better in Fenix. A review of strengths and weaknesses within the app focusing on users is due to fix things up.

does not provide any tools to evaluate progress...

Come to think of it, my interest in strength progress isn’t as with inline skating or cycling which offer RPE, Performance Condition and Speed/Power graphs in Garmin (cycling for most the most part). Maybe because of a lack of tools like you mention. I know there are weight records, but I mainly do bodyweight exercises. A 4-week or annual rep graph for a list of past exercises would be great in @Garmin Connect Mobile.

  • There is a rep evaluation in Garmin Connect Web, for bodyweight that would even work. But if you add weights it doesn't anymore. Just don't zoom out to far or it will start adding up multiple trainings into one value.

Current alpha is adding a training evaluation, for strength training that could tell you if you did better, worse or same as the last training, if it is the same one. That would be a simple thing without getting into more complex stuff. But I guess they are just going to evaluate heartrate zones.

Also isn't the whole point of strength training progress? Upside down Unless you are done and just want to keep your current muscle mass.

  • Also isn't the whole point of strength training progress?

Absolutely! I meant to say that I don’t see analyzing strength data for that purpose as I do with other activities inside Garmin. I just raise reps gradually, but not following any cues from Garmin that could tell me to or not. If I were to pick it would be:

to see how long X amount of reps of a particular exercise took during one session compared to another (not the total number, the reps per set)

to see how many sessions I’ve done with the same rep/set over the last weeks to decide if I should raise or not

and, pertaining to HR, a comparisson of these sessions viewed by exercise with the objective of seeing if there’s less effort for the same amount of work.

    What stops me?

Going through a long list in mobile instead of adding filters per exercise (when doing cycles).

A general view of HR not divided into sets/cycles like other activities do with laps

And that because you can’t add custom exercise names, I end up seeing various exercises named ‘Unknown’

But I guess they are just going to evaluate heartrate zones.

To my understanding, when it comes to Strength training, a chest HRM will be best in this scenario, right? Not sure if it’ll make rep counting better, but if it can somehow track the time spent between reps (kind of like HRV) to track muscle fatigue/failure, coupled with HR to measure performance it would definitely be worth analyzing for us data geeks. • "Fixed translation issue with reps in strength activities."

Is listed as fixed for 11.19

  • Don't know if it was mentioned before: If I have a weight like 22,5 it gets rounded up to 23 if I skip the repcounter.

  • The repetition abbreviation has been resolved with the v11.28 software update.

  • Here it's still an issue:

That's the training overview before it started and should also show how often that block is set to be repeated.

Same word, same issue, different location.
