Race time prediction after update to 9.36 way off

Yesterday my watch received the 9.36 update, after the update the race time prediction are way off, especially the 10K and 1/2 marathon, VO2max is 66 at the moment (that is pretty accurate I think, last official test was 68), I am 45 years old.

The prediction of the 10K is now 35:28 and it was 34:08 with version 9.33 (on the moment I can run a 10K low in the 34 or high in the 33)

The prediction of the 1/2 marathon is now 01:19:04 and it was 01:16:48 with version 9.33 (on the moment I think I can run a 1/2 marathon around the 01:15).

Other people with the same problem?

  • The recent updates from 8.37 to 9.33 and then to 9.36 have all had an impact on my race predictions times. Luckily I'm not bothered about race times, though I think the slower times are actually more accurate for me. Will be interesting to see what the next firmware update does to these times.,,,

  • Yes. Same for me. HM time before was 1:50. Ran one before with 1:49. Now its 2:01. Will prove its wrong tomorrow :D

  • It's completely way off, shame in it Garmin. Yesterday I have race in half marathon with time 1:24:24 and this my PB, Garmin still shows in predictor that my time will be 1:32:45... And all of my PB's is much better that Garmin showing. Please fix this bug, I have Fenix 7x sapphire solar, this is completely unacceptable that hi end watch show incorrect parameters. I using Garmin devices 3 years and there is collected a lot of data to calculate correct race results...

  • Same here. Race yesterday was 1:48 (new record). Watch still telling me 2:01 and also crashed my VO2max score. Don't know what they are doing.

  • Pushing this up again. My race predictions are far too fast. Not only since 9.33/36 but have always been. I specifically ran a 10k race yesterday to see what happens with it and finished at the time I expected. Garmin still thinks I can do it a whopping 15 minutes faster. No change there. Actually, this race yesterday brought all distances but 10k up from not possible into totally not possible region for me. Yeah. ***. Doesn't work at all.

  • From version 8.37 to 9.33 my race prediction was messed up.
My 10k PB is 48:50 and it was showing 39:40, which there was no way I could do it.

Now from 9.33 to 9.36 it got better. It shows now 47:43 as 10k prediction, which I think I can do it.

I guess it depends a lot on your daily training (pace, distance, times per week, etc) and which kind of training you do.

  • It looks like that garmin have problems with the difference between 'faster' and 'less fast' runners, when the prediction is good for the 'less fast' runners it is not for the 'faster' runners.

So 9.33 was good for the 'fast' runners and 9.36 for the 'less fast' runners, it looks like that garmin has to do some work on that side.....

  • I get that predictions can be a little rough.

But, if I have done a marathon in a certain time, and my prediction still is a few minutes slower, then I don’t get the point with the metric if it doesn’t adapt to a thing like that.

  • Race prediction is completly buggy. I have Fenix 7xSS about one month to this day, overall im using Garmin devices for about 3 years and train 4-5 times a week with all types of runs such as intervals, long runs, etc. Garmin have a lot of data collected to calculate races correctly. In this month i have 2 races in half marathon, results was 1:24:24 (My PB now) and today 1:25:30, my F7x SS still predicts half marathon 1:32:00. Intresting thing is than in my previous F6x it predicts ok, and in my temporary old Forerunner 920XT which i was using during looking for good price for 7x prediction for competition was perfect (1:25-1:28). So nobody convince me that this is reason of type runner, Fenix 7x with 9.36 firmware is useless with lot of bugs and very overpriced. I'm very disapointed, shame Garmin.

  • I had a race yesterday and ran 34:14 on a 10k:

The race prediction on the fenix 7 was/is:

    10K: 35:58

So it is way off. with firmware 9.33 it was much closer.
