Stolen Watches - No Support from Garmin

Looks like Garmin encourages robbery of Garmin watches. Just happened to me and my wife. A Fenix 7 and a Venu 2S

We have the Serial Numbers and proof of purchase. Still, Garmin refuses to block or try to track the watches.

The devices are added to your accounts, but Garmin let ppl freely use and add devices to other accounts without being removed from original accounts first.

They say they will only provide information to the police. But the police is slow and burocratic, might take a very long time for the police to contact them, or it might just never happen, considering Garmin has no official address in Brazil.

What about the rightful owners? After charging so much for their watches, they should take better care of their customers if they wish to keep them.

My Garmin Device May Have Been Stolen | Garmin Customer Support

  • Me and my wife were assaulted by 3 bandits in the beach, during vacations. They quickly surrounded us and the first two were allegedly armed with fire weapons, but I couldn't confirm that. Anyway, the 3rd came with a knife threatening to stab me.

They took our 2 android phones and 2 Garmin watches. They quickly removed the SIM cards or turned the phones off, cos when trying to track the phones, the last known location is just in the street they used to run away.

  • LOL, I like the "Garmin encourages robbery" part of your argument. Nice way to put it. Also, nice to hear Garmin follows some sane privacy related procedures and will only take action directed by the police. 10/10, would buy again.

  • I am very sorry to hear that. I also live in Brazil and I am always afraid of that, considering my Fenix 7 is worth 5 months of my salary... Our police sucks unfortunately... Too bad Garmin allows to add the watch to some else's account, didn't know that. You as owner should know its whereabouts or be able to lock it somehow....

    Wish you best of luck.

  • Since you cross-posted the same message to multiple subforums, I answer here too.

Use the form shown in the document you linked in your OP, it works for Brazil too:  https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/lawenforcement/

If the police refuses to do it, go there with your phone, ask the badge ID and the email address of the officer, and fill it yourself in front of them.

  • Police will do bugger all, I live in South Africa, similar to Brazil, if you did that to the cops there or here youre likely to get beaten up. Dont compare 3rd world law enforcement with 1st world. In these places you sort it out yourself or it doesnt get done.

  • This is very good point, if device is added to account it should be not possible to register it to different one, to be onset I'm surprised that it is possible now. Also if someone reset device and try to register it, it should send notification to current owner (registered account) with location. That way you can go to police and provide them details immediately and more important device is useless and the same do not encourage robbery.

  • I am sorry you were robbed. I am happy you and your wife are safe and were not injured.
