New fitness watch features...will garmin compete?

Hello,

I watched a samsung 5 pro review and was impressed with some features (body comp, blood pressure , ekg...).

Why doesnt the fenix 7x have these features?

I know these are estimates but the body comp feature would really be a great add on for the general health app.

Even if the number isnt not md wise, you could use it to see the tangents in time vs training / sleep / diet.

Anyway hope its secretly built in...like the venu 2 with ekg

I believe the samsung watch uses the same electrode to estimate body comp and ekg and uses hrm for blood pressure.

What you guys think

Thanks

  • I think Garmin should just stick to what they do best, and not try to copy features on competitors' watches that, as you mentioned, don't really even work well on those watches.

If you want to see what happens when Garmin dabbles in body composition metrics, go check out the ongoing disaster in the Index 2 forum, and then ask yourself again if their watches really need that.

Personally I'd prefer if they just focused on fine-tuning and improving the features we already have, or adding new sport-related features (ahem, I want my NextFork!)

  • And to add late evening report in the morning Grin

  • As long as BP isn’t measured with a cuff, its a total random numbers generator. If u use a cuff on the wrist, its an almost random numbers generator. If u use a cuff on your upper arm, numbers start to make sense. An upper arm bp cuff from Garmin is already leaked.

Body comp is in Garmin Connect for years now (starting with the Index 1)

Why do you need an ECG/EKG in a smartwatch? I can’t find a usecase for me, even being a paramedic.

I totally agree that they should have started to support glucose monitoring years ago. Shouldn’t be to hard to make it like manual weight input but with 2 data points: time and value.
