9.33 Fenix 7 sapphire solar: extreme pace errors during run

Have been seeing short pace spikes with Fenix 7 since acquired in June, now the spikes are continuous with 9.33 update. Average pace still ok, but instant pace at 3:23 makes stamina and other features unusable.

Wore both watches on opposite arms during an out & back run today, both connected to HRM. Fenix 6 pace very stable in comparison as shown below. Ran trials with out HRM and no difference in performance. Fenix 7 was in auto select mode, but see same issues when in all + multi-band mode.

Instant pace appears to be only correct on Fenix 7 when slowing down below average pace.

Got a similar issue (same watch, same software version) when I ran with a friend on Sunday 11, September, on a 2h long run:

* Fenix 7 sapphire solar: 23.65km - 5:05min/km

* Fenix 5x: 21.20km - 5:32min/km

But on my side, average pace is not OK though.

I noticed this during my workout this morning. I'd see that my pace was as slow as 7:05/mi, but it would then jump a few minutes later to 6:25/mi. Average pace seemed just fine, and in line with what I'd expect given power from Stryd (pace/distance coming from GPS here instead of Stryd).

FWIW, my instant pace issues have been fixed with 9.36 update. Also fixed issues I was seeing with Golf shot detection and Pulse Ox not working.

I've the same issue today with the Fenix 7s and running pod.

I just found out about the data recording frequency which I've updated to every second. I'm not sure if it will fix it but the reason I even check is I ran 2 hours and the calculated current pace on my run today was a joke, swinging both way too high and way too low.

it's happening to me and my wife on a regular basis, in a stadium, going from 5min/km to 6... that's a huge variation, for a steady pace !

what's weird, is that values in the activity saved are far closer to reallity to what the watch display in real time.

I ran again yesterday with updated data recording frequency but it's still a joke. Especially if you have paused for any reason and you restart the run.

I don't find a lot of answers from Garmin and I already contacted support I will try support again to see if they have any further suggestions.

Hello,

Sorry that I didn't find time to post after finding why this was happening..

However, that was the HRM-Pro which had the option activated (surely after the software update) to calculate pace instead of the watch!!

This huge gap came from there.
