I’m obviously dying and I’ll never recover, and I sleep poorly.

Nice watch, this Fenix 7.  It does raw data well, for the most part, with a notable exception with altitude.  Maybe it’s just mine, but it’s rarely more accurate than +/- 100’…but I digress.  Why is this damned thing always busting my balls?  It’s like a nagging girlfriend.  On its list of complaints-

- it claims I sleep poorly EVERY NIGHT; I get six to eight hours and feel well rested pretty much every morning.  It likes to tell me I’m not getting any REM, either, but I most often recall my dreams and I have them, so…yeah.

- it’s perpetually pissed off that my body battery is insufficiently charged.  Admittedly, I’m up at 5:30AM and I work out every day, and I’m 49 years old, so I DO fall asleep in front of TV at 9PMish, but I don’t feel lethargic.  Can someone explain “body battery” to me, please?

- it’s ticked that I’m exercising every day and constantly telling me my recovery will be delayed, but at my age, if you’re not looking after yourself in the gym, you’re not going to last long, so why is it telling me this?  Yeah, I’m fatigued after an hour on the elliptical or a half hour elliptical with a half hour weights, but how am I supposed to stay fit / get fitter with exercise?  Stupid watch.

- it tells me my VO2 max is in the toilet and my HRV is in the teens.  I could lose to lose a few pounds, but is that the issue?  Am I really this unhealthy?

Am I just using the thing wrong?

  • I can absolutely confirm that alcohol does that to your watch. ;-) Probably even to your health. Have the same experience with that. Mostly light sleep, no REM, still heavy dreams, Stress up, HRV down, even after light drinking. It takes almost 4 days to fully recover. So take your watch messurements as an incentive. ;-)

And what you describe about your job probably will not help to recover either.

  • I'm finding only 20mm and 26mm. Guess, I need 22m. Damn it, 22mm is for the regular Fenix. How Yooside can have available all sizes except regular?! Or regular is sold out?

  • Probably sold out, still available in Germany in all colors & sizes (20,22,26) + 2xPack (.de), in UK ONLY 22mm in black single pack (co.uk) and in US...wow..non in any sizes at the moment.

I'll hurry up to buy another spare pack in Germany just in case...

  • Done..bought just in case another spare pack

BUT: I found at Ama US those: "Abanen Hook and Loop Quick" art-no: B09G5RTR8V in the US and B09G68LMB3 in UK which are definitely not the ones which where itchy but look exactly the same like the YOOSIDE with same bundles, same color options, same text. Maybe they just branded it differently in the US. Just compare those on AMA US to YOOSIDE loop on Ama de.

  • Thanks! I ordered B09G68LMB3. Let's see Slight smile

  • Yes this is 100% a problem. The watch puts all it's fancy metrics into the sleep basket and the watches actually doesn't track sleep all that well. The result is broken advice from the watch. Alcohol is a problem but my sleep tracking is beyond poor and I don't drink every day or week. Maybe a few times a month. It says I wake up when I don't. It says I sleep too short when I bounce out of bed at 5am after sleeping 7hrs. But it's mainly the false wake up times crippling my sleep score and the domino effect on training readiness and all the other metrics is clear as day

  • I am an airline pilot by myself doing long haul flights on the B777.

Right now I am on vacation with no jetlag but proper sleep, training and nutrition.

--> Training Readines, sleep, body battery and so on look very good - and I feel good and fit too.

When I am working a lot and put my body through different time zones my Fenix 7X sometimes doesn't log sleep at all - body battery stays on "5" for multiple days...

So I would say yes, there is something going on with your body when sleep score and body battery are bad ;)

  • I just got off a triple 7, but I wasn't operating, just on the jump seat.

I've been fasting the last three and change days, so no food or alcohol, and the numbers are improving in all categories.  I think it's time for a lifestyle change.  Oh well, you can't act like you're 20 forever...

  • See, after all Garmin is right Slight smile
