Tactix 7 owners: have you seen it - when will v9.33 be released?

So, the Big Update is finally upon us, and Reddit claims 5% of users already got it as does the newly minted top forum page.

Per Garmin explanation for why there's no beta for Tactix 7:

For new software updates, the Tactix 7 will receive new official software updates at the same time as our Fenix 7 and Epix 2 series watches do.

I've checked with Garmin Express just now: nada.

Anybody with Tactix 7 got the update? Any idea what the rollout schedule for Tactix devices is?

  • If I could convert my T7 to standard F7X with loosing of aviation and other features, I will do it in no time. I also consider swapping it for 7X. I don't use such a features. In a time of buy, I just want a non solar ones (and non sapphire, which doesn't exist). If I look at this picture, I will know that, I won't be happy with 7X. We've must wait just a little more longer. I'm looking forward for such a great list of features, that update provides.

  • updating the Jepessen database using Garmin Aviation Database Manager

Correct. However, I was talking about the known problem of the database update via WIFI, which certainly also affects you with FW 8.37.

  • I understand that Tactix 7 has no Alpha/Beta program, and that the reason for this is related to the aviation features.

However, I would be more than happy to opt. out of the aviation features temporarily, in order to participate in the F7X Alpha/Betas.

That way users would be able to choose a public release with aviation features, or a beta with the latest new features, but without aviation features. And thereby maximize their user value without Garmin spending more resources on integrations between departments.

  • Thank you very much for keeping us updated about the release of 9.33 FW on Tactix 7. I'm looking forward.

  • Kinda like that idea too

  • Correct. However, I was talking about the known problem of the database update via WIFI, which certainly also affects you with FW 8.37.

Nope.  Doesn't affect me.  So far, you appear to be the only one saying anything about this "problem."

  • Hear, hear!

Not sure if it's truly feasible though. If a late bug in non-Fenix features stops the release for several days, I'd imagine those features integration isn't skin deep, but more like Forerunner vs Fenix. The features might look the same, but the codebase is slightly different, dependencies are different, etc.

In other words, it might not be easy or even possible/practical for Garmin to cut away aviation stuff for a beta. And it will hardly accomplish anything as the users won't be testing Tactix firmware. They'd be effectively testing Fenix firmware on Tactix hardware. I don't think Garmin is looking for more Fenix testers.

Perhaps, in the future Garmin can offer SKUs without aviation? So a standard unit would have night vision, stealth, and more. Then you have aviation extra, ballistic extra, and aviation and ballistic? At least two of those SKUs can have a proper beta program.

Better still, make these add-on purchases... You pay extra $100, unlock and download a different firmware. I'm sure somebody at Garmin is moving in that direction.

  • Totally agree. It seems to me that Fenix and Tactix are very similar in code-base. With some added features from aviation. Hence, release dates, HW, and overall feature set. And if T7 would have a beta program, it would come with an extra cost/time on every release due to integration with aviation. If my assumptions are correct, T7 and F7X are identical apart from the added SW features, it would be very easy for Garmin to allow T7 units onto the F7X Alpha/Beta program. It would first and foremost increase the user value, and probably not be very significant in terms of bug reports and such. But it would partly solve the fact that the Tactix 7 is the top tier watch with the least updated features 90% of the year.

  • My proven recipe to receive the update: leave watch & connected over night, don't power ine of them off. Next day the update is installed.

  • And is 2nd in line to the marq as Garmin's flagship smartwatch. Anyway I see the rollout is at 10% so I'll give it another day or so  before I really start to panic
