Bad buttons AGAIN!!

Yep agreed. Every one of my Fenix watches 5, 5+, 6 and now the 7 have button issues. My 945 also had it but Garmin swapped that one out for another.  It isn’t good enough but I guess most people just accept it. 

Why do you keep buying Garmin then?

Because all of the other things that work. But still..

I hope they switch to the buttons that the Mk2i has. They’re induction-based so no O ring, or anything like that. The build quality is off the charts.

I just got a brand new Tactix 7 pro from Garmin because of the poor buttons. They work all great now, no double click, no sponge feeling, just as it should be

I've worked on 5X, 6X, and 7X Fenix in the past.  It's obvious to me that with the 7, Garmin is trying to improve the hardware in some ways.

For example, in the 5 and 6 series, the button switches are mounted on the watch's motherboard, so if one dies, it would take an experienced technician with SMD skills to replace it.   

In contrast, the 7X has little retaining slots at each button.  In each of these slots sits a small button module (just an SMD switch on a little PCB).  The modules each connect with a gold-plated leaf spring to contacts spaced around the perimeter of the motherboard.  With this design, if a button dies, you can just pop out the bad button module with some tweezers and replace it with a new one -- no soldering involved. 

I doubt Garmin would make these modules available to the end user, but perhaps the intent was to allow their refurbishment department to repair watches with bad switches.  This would save a lot of otherwise working watches from the bin, and Garmin would benefit by not having to provide warranty replacements from new stock.

Unfortunately, when it comes to button -feel-, the new buttons on the 7X are not nearly as tactile as those on the 6-series, and feel sort of soft, so in that respect, the 7-series is a step back.

I agree that they dont have that tactical feeling from the fenix 6/tactix delta. But all buttons clicking just fine now.

I'm not sure about the Fénix series referenced in your post, but I remember start/stop button got "tired" in my F3 and old micro switch had to be desoldered to get the new one soldered to the board. Buttons had a kind of retaining slots where rings were holding buttons in their place. I still have my trusty F3 and button feel just great.
