No Running Power data field with Fenix 7 and Garmin HRM Pro+

I just bought a Fenix 7S and a Garmin HRM Pro+ heart rate strap.  The combination is supposed to make it possible to record running power:

But after pairing this watch with this heart strap, there is no running power datafield available in the running activity.

  • I see new HRMPRO+ datafields data fields for running dynamics like vertical oscillation, just not for power.
  • I can also see that the strap is paired with the necessary Ant+ protocol
  • The watch does allow adding a power datafield for cycling, although I don't have a cycling power meter.
  • I also tried downloading Garmin's old running power datafield software, although this isn't supposed to be needed for this new watch.

Has anybody gotten this combination to work?

Software versions

Fenix7S: 8.37

HRP Pro+: whatever the  update was that came a few days ago

  • The native Running Power will be available with the next firmware update. Until then, you have to install the IQ app onto the watch AND add it to one of the data pages in the running apps on the watch.
    That combination works.

  • Sitronen, thanks, but I've already added that IQ app.

After that, I'm not able to add either a Power screen or a Power datafield

    Power Screen Attempt

    1. Hold MENU.
    2. Select Activities & Apps
    3. Select Run
    4. Select Run Settings
    5. Select Data Screens
    6. Select a data screen to customize
    7. Scroll through screens until ADD NEW
    8. Select ADD NEW

But then there is no Power screen option to add.

    Power Datafield Attempt

    Do 1-6 above and then:

    7. Select any existing screen
    8. Select Layout
    9. Select Data Fields
    10. Select a field on the screen to change
    11. Scroll through the available Fields.

But then there is no Power data field.

Were you able to get Running Power to work with one of these procedures, or by a different one?

  • I think native running power is coming with the next public release. It’s definitely in the beta software, just not available in 8.37 I believe.

  • I can confirm that with FW 9.31 on the watch and FW 8.8 on thee HRM Pro you get running power in GC and GCM.
