Inaccurate step and sleep training

So i just traded my Fitbit sense for a Garmin Fenix 7 solar sapphire.

Bit my experience so far is that while Fitbit sense counts my steps while mowing the lawn, Garmin doesn't. And while Fitbit tells me to move 250 steps each hour, gamin tells me one time in the morning.

Furthermore, my experience is that Fitbits sleep tracking is whey more accurate and also counts the small naps you light take during the day.. is it just me that haven't set my garmin up good enough or is Fitbit more accurate then Garmin on these parameters.

  • I think there's a huge difference between Fitbit Sense and Garmin Fenix 7. Why the latter is an adventure tool watch for sport enthusiast with some smart watch functions the first is more of a fitness focused smartwatch. Due to the previously described I believe the comparison might not be entirely fair.

I have positive experience with my F7x SS counting correctly my steps. Maybe as your arm is not swinging (like during a walk) your unit doesn't detect the steps while you mow the lawn. I never mow the lawn so cannot comment on this further. Maybe someone else can share more on this. I saw some posts where users were highlighting that they wanted to have the naps recorded they take during the day. As I'm not interested in this topic I did not take time to read those posts. Again, someone else might chime in and share her/his experience. Garmin has a move alert for inactivity. After one hour of inactivity, Move! and the move bar appear. Additional segments appear after every 15 minutes of inactivity. The device also beeps or vibrates if audible tones are turned on (System Settings). HTH

  • Thank you for answering.

Due to the move alert, I have activated it, but I have noticed that it only and not always, provides an alert in the morning, and only this one time during the day.. but I guess I need to spend more time with the Garmin and get to know all the functions.

So far I am satisfied with Garmin, but I did use the analytics that came out of the use of Fitbit, so there will be some time to adjust.

  • Going through the manual and/or see some Youtube videos (for ex. DC Rainmaker) would help you to learn more about the tons of the features you have on your wrist. Garmin Connect app/web displays more post-workout information that is useful for analysis of data.

  • I will definitely do that, thanks

Probably it just detects the vibration of the mower, and not truly detecting your steps, because if you have the hand wearing the watch on the handlebar, there is very little chance it could really detect the steps. It is a matter of opinion, whether it is better to have plenty of false steps detected, or not having them detected at all. I'd advise keeping the watch in your pocket (or attaching it to the ankle) if you cannot let the arm swinging freely while walking.

  • Fitbit is way way more accurate for sleep tracking.   In fact no other wearable compares.     As far as counting your steps while mowing that is strange,  I'm not sure how that is possible.  I usually mow with one hand since I have automatic mower to count my steps.

To be honest I had a forerunner 245 then upgraded to a fenix 6,   and I'm realizing these watches have so many features I don't even use I wish I just got a much cheaper fitbit because sleep tracking and health is more important to me then jogging or cycling.
