Interesting that they changed the name of this metric from "7 day load" to "acute load". Still seems to be a 7-day rolling sum, the same as before, I think they only changed the name.…
Actually, a slight correction to my comment above. I guess Acute Load is not exactly the same as the old 7-day load, they've made some improvements to it. DCR says this about it:
Garmin says that the…
Acute load is not (yet) available for fenix 7, so the data field would be useless.
I know that, but its in the latest beta and I hope Garmin can prepare to make this in the coming releases.

Anyways, I also really want this as a watchface datafield - even if it's just a simple number without the pretty chart (although the chart would be great too). It's one of the only metrics I use regularly that can't be added to the watchface. Currently I have to make do with using weekly intensity minutes instead, but it's not really the same thing.

Garmin says that the HRV here is part of Training Status 2.0, which is why you see the Acute Load bits (replacing 7-day load) and revamped UI. ... Acute load better represents the last 7 days of effort than the previous 7-day widget, because it burns off the older load. Meaning, a big workout 6 days ago is far less meaningful to your recovery than a big workout yesterday.

I agree, hoping this makes it to the Fenix 7 soon now that 9.33 is available. I think it’s a far more useful metric than intensity minutes.

Especially since Intensity minutes reset to 0 every week. So it's not even a rolling sum.
I just ran 5k 12 hours ago, but my watchface shows 0 intensity minutes now because it's monday morning (the beginning of the Garmin week). Sort of a useless stat as a result of that. My body doesn't care what day of the week it is. But for lack of a better option, I continue to use it on my watchface anyways.... until whenever they might add acute load as an option.
It looks like the new Marq Athlete has acute load on (at least) one of the included watch faces. Can we pretty please have acute load available as a data field for watch faces for the Fenix line?
