Pool Swim - How does Lap work on Tactix 7

I was pool swimming yesterday and when I pressed 'lap' the distance counter seemed to stop counting distance.

What does pressing lap do - does a rest interval get set and I have to press lap again to restart swim distance?

Manual is not that clear.

The lap button is used during a pool swim to record a swim set and enter rest. Press the lap button to start swimming again. Sequence is:

Press start to begin first set.

Swim x lengths for the set. Press lap. Screen will show a different screen with rest counters and rest information.

Press lap to begin next set. Press lap when finished the set. Repeat as required

Press stop to finish the swim and save
