Training Effect changes by downloading HR-data from HRM-Pro strap

My training effect changes from wrong to right after I download the HR data from my hrm-pro strap. The heartrate though seems to be alright and the strap is connected via ant+ the whole time, but the watch calculates the effect wrong.

This was a 90% Zone 3 easy run.
Before downlaoding:

After downloading:

Im on sw 9.15 at the moment on my fenix 7, but this issue accured before I participated in the beta program.
Actualy the run before was an anaerobic one, so maybe thats why it calculates my easy run as it.

  • Happened to me some times, but not such drastic changes.

I believe the difference is related to HR changes. Optical HR misreadings might look like big HR changes during activity, looking like anaerobic and intervals training.

When you download HR from the HRM the values can be much smoother, leading to a regular aerobic training load.

  • I tested couple of days now workout with optical sensor switched off, so just hrm strap (hrm pro plus) gives data. After workout I pushed watch to download data from strap. And again same differences. I do always same workout - walking same path with same pace, reading after workout shows aerobic load 2,7 anaerobic 0, after data download aerobic 3,5 anaerobic 0,5... It is hilly muddy terrain with pace 8.40-10.00, heart rate up to my treshold (168bpm). I am 56, I believe rather second data are correct, but who knows. It teaches me not to care about data, but about my feeling :-). But for the money invested in Garmin gear, it is little bit bitter lesson.

  • you dont need to switch the sensor of while being connected to a chest strap - the watch use the data from the strap and not the sensor.

  • It was discussed some time ago and Garmin clearly stated that you shouldn't download HR data from external sensor if it was connected to your watch during activity.

  • Yeah in this case if it was properly connected during the entire activity, no need do download again.

  • Greetings to all! I had the same problem! I reported this problem to representatives of GARMIN Russia last year! They sent me a reply from GARMIN, which says that when using the watch and the chest strap of the heart rate monitor, you need to save the first readings, and not those that we forcibly load from the chest heart rate monitor! I attach photos of their letters to those who are interested)! Good luck to everyone)

  • There is an explanation from Garmin:
Duplication of activity information appears only if the user has used the HRM pro and the watch. Save and synchronize the activity. Then, if you use the menu in the watch and ask HRM to send your saved data, this will create a duplicate activity with the data saved from HRM, and the saved calories and heart rate will be different from the main activity, since the data in this case will come only from HRM.

It is recommended that you do not request synchronization with HRM, but only make a request if you know for sure that you have been out of range of the watch for a long period of time in your activity, otherwise this may affect the data and lead to a significant decrease in Vo2max.

The instructions for the heart rate monitor also tell you why duplicate data appears.

  • Just a side note: if Anaeorob is 0.0, how could the whole activity be an anaerob one? This does not make sense to me :)
