Livetrack : An activity is limited to 24H00

Hello,

I finished my Ultra-Trail 140km (Verbier - St Bernard) last week.

I used Livetrack for my family to find me at time to the "Ravito"

After 92km and 24h00, Livetrack stopped without reasons.

I did another test at home and after 24h00 livetrack stop.

I have another ultra-Trail in September and I must use Livetrack (because he takes only 5% of the battery of my smartphone/ hour)

If I stop my watch and I restart the trace, I lost the full trace :-(

Today, I remarked the same issue in this Forum 2 years ago on Fenix6 !

Do you have a plan to solve it in short time ?
or we must count in years ?

Br,

Jean-François

  • You should report this to Garmin Support if you haven't already. There is no guarantee that someone from Garmin will see it here and proactively act on this issue.

  • Hello,

Yes, It's reported to Garmin Support.

    Currently, they analyse my issue.

(But I want to share this issue with users also)

To have a battery with 66Hours and a livetrack limited to 24Hours...   That's harm

  • As a workaround, could you just restart the live track after 24h?

  • Yes it does have a 24 hour cap from my memory. You must have cell service in all of these places based on what you wrote but if there a reason you need the full track?

  • Hello,

Yes, I already restart livetrack after 24H.  (The new link sent, is waiting a new activity. there is no link with the current activity ongoing)

    I also restart my smartphone.

    I also disable/enable  the bluetooth..

I did all test during my Trail..  but also during a other test at home.

    No workaround found.

  • The maximum time without network is 3hours.

The livetrack was cut whare I have a coverage of a network.

    (FYI: I work in telecom)

Why a full track? > because I don't have the time to play with my watch and my mobile during a trail.

                                 For analyse, for Stamina,....

  • Hello,

I come back to you with a new test.

    After 23h50:32 the livetrack stop.

    I tried to restart livetrack.

Livetrack restart but the new link sent is not linked to the current activity.

I stopped again livetrack (smartphone) AND I restarted livetrack ( a second time)

AND the new link is linked to my current activity (My watch displays : "Livetrack started")

    :-)

    ouff I have a workaround.

I will test it again in a real situation (because here I'm at home)

Thank you to all for your message !

    jf

(FYI  I continue my test from 24h to 48h)

  • It would be interesting if the ’Extend LiveTrack' setting in GC would make any difference. Have you tried to turn it on/off?

  • I can't find an answer to this Livetrack problem either.

I cycle brevets of 600 to 1,000kms in length and they take more than 24hours. Even if I'm off the bike for a spell to eat, drink, or rest, the activity session needs to persist.

I need Livetrack to work beyond 24 hours within an active session.

I could stop the recording and start a new one, and use that for the next 24 hours. However that means I can't as easily use a single recorded gpx of a session as proof of passage on these events.

I can't even understand why this cutoff exists. The activity session is active, the device is present, why cut it off arbitrarily?

  • For long races, the problem is not only with the live track...

I understand that you participate in BRM / Audax. I also participate and the live track duration limit has become a real nuisance...

But in the last period, the direction indications / turn by turn, for races over 350km, are missing.
    Do you have a fix?

This fact makes me spend 80% of the time on the map screen and in 24 hours 50%+ of the battery is consumed.
    I use a Fenix 7 Sapphire solar.
