thanks for the thread OP. it seems this is a real software issue here. garmin is treating HRV as two entirely separate and incompatible metrics on the same platform, one in Health Snapshot, which seems…
same for me. i think it disables it if you're wearing an external strap, which is odd
You need a garmin hr strap fyi or at least that is what it says.

I´ve tried again with the HRM Dual from garmin and it also doesnt shows.
so for me i have a morning ritual where i put on the H10 and get HRV readings from EliteHRV and HRV4 Training. Now i also add health snapshot on the tactix 7 but as you said, it refuses to show HRV reading if the H10 is connected. I need to remove the strap in order to get the garmin reading. odd behavior, especially when in previous devices (tactix delta) the H10 strap was REQUIRED in order to read HRV...

noooo i've been taking hrv readings for years with polar straps on garmin devices. seems like they "recommend" it but anyway it doesn't explain why you can get a reading from the optical sensor on the watch but not a strap. also the guy above said it wasn't working with his garmin strap either.
I think this is a bug...
More than likely it is a bug. I have a 530, Tactix 7 Pro and now 1040 solar and wear a hrm-tri all the time when riding/running and never seen it. Or maybe I don’t know where to look in GC.
for the manual reading it's Reports--> All Activities--> HRV Stress
so for the manual reading it seems you can still take it with the strap and it records HRV. actually gc still says a strap is REQUIRED lol
"Pair your device with a chest strap heart rate monitor to measure your stress. Find the HRV Stress Test/Stress Score feature on your device and follow the on-screen instructions."
it refuses to record HRV if using a strap in Heath Snapshot, and those HRV readings don't show up at all in Reports--HRV Stress.
what a mess...
thanks for the thread OP. it seems this is a real software issue here. garmin is treating HRV as two entirely separate and incompatible metrics on the same platform, one in Health Snapshot, which seems to ONLY record via the optical sensor and refuses to use an external strap, and one in the HRV Stress widget which seems to ONLY record via an external strap and refuses to use the optical sensor. Neither shares any HRV data with the other
Yes, thats it.
I have an HRM-Pro with F7 and no HRV in health snapshot with the strap on when I tried.
Garmins ecosystem is also a mess. Having connect and explore installed on phone seens to make some confusion to wich one watch will sync.
I already sent this few times as bug to Garmin. Nothing has changed. For the HRV load activity you MUST use chest strap because of correct HRV reading, but if you want best accuracy with health snapshot, you just can't get it, because it won't measure HRV with chest strap. This is very stupid. Maybe it's because of new night HRV metrics, if they aren't as accurate as with chest strap, measuring with chest strap and then other day or night with ohr could mess the data? But IMHO the health snapshot is completely separate function and it could use chest strap HRV for accurate readings.
