Not always on display option on Fenix 7 ?

Hi, any chance to get not always on display in Fenix 7 ? I think made this kind of update helps save a lot of battery, sometimes i missed this feature on fenix 7 , it will be nice have this not only on epix 2 or other Amoled displayed watches.. it’s great battery saving option,   maybe it's comes with another updates ?

  • A watch with a transflective MIP display like the Fenix series normally is always on. The idea is that it barely uses battery except when the backlight is on or the display is changing. I don't think turning off the display will save much battery. Like of like e-ink in that regard.

  • It is an option in the power manager for reducing power during activities. The option is called Display > Time Out.

It was also an option on the fenix 6. On the 7X it says it adds 28 hours of activity tracking time. But this is obviously dependent on how much you activate the display. I have actually tried this and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have extreme battery requirements. I found it annoying.

Also FYI, the power involved in drawing the map and rotating it while you are running burns a very dramatically more power than just having navigation enabled on a screen that doesn’t update very many pixels.

Changing your map orientation to "North Up" substantially helps this, as it won't be constantly rotating and redrawing the entire map every second

  • There is the option to change the setting to display->timeout in the powermode setting but I think it's buggy. because not only won't it allow setting a duration, but it times out even when you are actively swiping the display, after only 6 secs or so.  Timeout does reset if using buttons tho. Is supposed to add 8 hrs battery which is huge!

  • Yes, the timeout is buggy...does get annoying when you're looking at the map during a hiking activity and the screen goes black.  But yes, it saves battery life!
