Fenix 7s charging after unboxing

Hello,

Yesterday I opened a box with new 7s watch. I see on the screen that only 1 piece/strip of battery bar is missing and the device suggests (on the screen) 9 days left until the battery runs out.

I wonder if I've done well without charging the watch yet and waiting for its battery to just run out. The manual for this device does not seem to say directly whether the device should be connected to the charger immediately after removing it from the box, regardless of the battery charge level.

What is your opinion, what did you do after taking your own devices out of the boxes?

Regards

  • Most electronic devices with Li-Po or LI-Ion batteries usually suggest charging the battery first before using the device the first time - but I haven't seen a recommendation one way or the other with Garmin watches.

FWIW, I've always given my Garmin watches a full 100% charge right out of the box, even though they usually come ~80% charged already. Only takes about 20-30 minutes to top it off, and you really should plug in any new Garmin watch into a PC anyways, at least so you can get all the latest updates from Garmin Express.

Honestly I'm skeptical that it really makes any difference either way though - if you go ahead and use the battery all the way down without charging it to 100% first, you're probably still fine.

It's unlikely that you "hurt" anything by using the watch for a few days before giving it its first full charge, so I wouldn't stress about it. If you're worried about it, it's not too late to go ahead and give it a full charge now if you want.
