Feature Request - Fenix 7x - Turn torch and backgroung light on when using torch hot key

Current behavior

  1. Trigger torch via hot key (explicitly assigned - not double-tap on light)
  2. Torch app opens
  3. Background light stays off
  4. Torch stays off

Expected behavior

  1. Trigger torch via hot key
  2. Torch app opens
  3. Background light turns on
  4. Torch turns on

When I use the torch hot key I expect it to enable the torch.
The background light is necessary, because - usually - you use the torch when it's dark. Wink
If the background light stays off, I have to turn it on manually to see what's on the screen.

    I disagree completely.

Here's what I experience in my tactix 7:

    Current behavior

    1. Trigger Flashlight via hot key (I have assigned START + UP to Flashlight)
    2. Flashlight app opens
    3. Background light turns on for the duration set in MENU > System > Backlight > General Use > Timeout 8 Seconds
    4. Flashlight stays off

    This is perfect.

I do NOT want the Flashlight to turn on immediately upon pressing the Hot Key combination.  I want to check that what is held in memory for the Flashlight setting is what I want to use in the current situation.

For example, if the last time I used the Flashlight I used it on its brightest white light setting, that's the setting that would be used if the Flashlight turned on immediately.  But if I don't want the brightest white light setting, I want to be able to adjust the setting before the Flashlight turns on - just like it is set up with current software.

Your Expected Behavior would be unacceptable for my use case, so please Garmin, leave it the way it is.

Further, if you want the Backlight to turn on when you open the Flashlight App with your Hot Ket combination, then please configure the System Backlight settings accordingly.

  • I like it the way it is - I can turn on and off the flashlight (with the last known brightness/color setting) without having the flashlight controls pop up on the screen. Sometimes I just want to turn it on and off real quick just for a second so I can find my keys or something, and don't really need all the fancy flashlight controls every time - and if I do, I have a hotkey for that. And I also don't need the screen to light up every time.

So my current setup, that I'd like to keep the way it is, is:

    Single-tap Light button

    1. Turns on backlight
    2. that's it

    Double-tap Light button

    1. Flashlight toggles on or off
    2. that's it

    Hold Light+Back (custom hotkey)

    1. Opens flashlight settings app
    2. that's it

I like having the separation of functions - if they try to combine too many things into single UI events it'll frustrate a lot of people.

  • Thanks for your reply.

I've set the "Keys & Touch" to off so that the back light is not triggered unnecessarily. Maybe I'll set it to "after sunset"
