Fenix 7 Base vs 955, are you kidding me?

Reducing the price is amazing, congrats to everyone that is able to score such a fantastic ecosystem and watch.

But now I feel duped buying the base Fenix 7.

The 955 is $200 less than the base Fenix 7.

The 955 basically has the same screen. [Not really a complaint I suppose, but I'm reaching for any sort of "upgrade" the $700 Fenix has over the $500 955)

The 955 has 2x as much memory, are you serious? The base Fenix 7 has 16gb and the 955 ($200 less!) has 32gb.

The 955 has multi-band the base Fenix 7 does not.

The memory and multi-band are the largest slaps in the face. The furthest stretch I can reach for is I paid $200 more for less memory in exchange for ~10 more hours of GPS time.

  • Wrong. You may not care, as some Fenix users do not care, but that does not mean that no one else cares. The same issue  was raised in Epix forum as well.

  • And the issue got about 16 replies, most of which were passive.

It was meant as a joke, though. Jeez. Stuck out tongue

  • Us Fenix 7X SS owners dont care either

Fenix 7X SS owner here, can verify that I also don't care Smiley I still feel like the 7X SS was/is a fantastic value, albeit admittedly it's an expensive model. But I have no regrets and if I lost my watch today, I'd 100% without hesitation pay another $1000 to get another 7X SS.

As I mentioned in my earliest post in this thread, ever since day 1 of the Fenix 7 product launch, I thought the base model 7 was not a very good deal for what you pay for - you don't save enough money on it to justify giving up multiband, 16GB of storage, and sapphire and titanium materials. I'm on the record trying to tell people it wasn't a great choice (link to thread) to pick the base 7, on this very forum, on the very day it was released. So if it seems like I don't have a lot of pity for people who chose that model anyways, and regret it now, that's why.

People who didn't want to buy a sapphire model due to their perception of inferior screen clarity (which in my opinion is not even an issue at all, but I concede that it obviously does bother some people), they could have chosen to wait for something else (like the Tactix 7 or 955) to come out, and not jumped on buying a model they'd soon regret choosing.

  • Here another F7XSS owner who doesn't care. I had the opportunity and the money to buy it, and realy like it for the sapphire and size. I make the 955 look like a toy watch on my wrists.

  • I'm chipping in to the conversation. Remember we need to get the highest number of replies, so we can win a prize from Garmin.

When Fenix 7 came out, I was thinking to buy the Fenix 7 base because I had the Fenix 6 pro before which came with the premium features (except Sapphire). This time when I reviewed the features of each models and checked the comparative tables from DC Rainmaker and others, I realise that I would have to pay more in other to have the premium features and so I did.

That said, anyone who bought the Fenix 7, at that time, shouldn't regret anything as only Garmin knew what is their product road for this year, so you didn't have another model to compare and you didn't know 955 will have more capacity and dual-frequency. Also, you still have a good GPS and memory capacity on a better looking and finish watch.

    That's my opinion

  • Don't forget those of us who waited for the tactix 7 ... I'm one, and, for the record, I don't care either.

    Thumbsup

  • Remind me what is the prize for the longest thread? I regret too that I didn't buy all of the functions in my 7, which has 955. If I would have to choose now, I would pick- Fenix 7

  • Well.... Tactix is the best Fenix, after all... But! Why no Fenix 7x without a solar panel and sapphire? The thing I (supposedly) envy more to the 955 - base of course - is the screen visibility... But that's another story

  • I understand all the points of view here and I intend only to bring more information. Check out this comparison video of the Fenix 7s SS and the 955. It seems they are still very distant in software complexity. The 955 is also much more buggier although I know it was recently launched.... It worth to check it out

  • I don’t like the design of the Tactix. I used to own 6X Sap without solar, loved it and wanted 7X Sap without solar. Still, 12 days after the launch of the 7 series I bought 7X SS and couldn’t be happier with it. Solar feature is a total gimmick for me and I hate the solar ring. But it’s not a deal breaker for me. So, if I had to buy a watch today, I’d go again for 7X SS. Zero problems regarding screen legibility. Best watch I’ve ever had so far.

And btw, I like very much both FR255&955 though I have no plans to buy any of them.
