Fenix 7 Base vs 955, are you kidding me?

Reducing the price is amazing, congrats to everyone that is able to score such a fantastic ecosystem and watch.

But now I feel duped buying the base Fenix 7.

The 955 is $200 less than the base Fenix 7.

The 955 basically has the same screen. [Not really a complaint I suppose, but I'm reaching for any sort of "upgrade" the $700 Fenix has over the $500 955)

The 955 has 2x as much memory, are you serious? The base Fenix 7 has 16gb and the 955 ($200 less!) has 32gb.

The 955 has multi-band the base Fenix 7 does not.

The memory and multi-band are the largest slaps in the face. The furthest stretch I can reach for is I paid $200 more for less memory in exchange for ~10 more hours of GPS time.

Serious question here.  Why is it in these forums if you disagree with another member or challenge something they said, you're either a fanboy, a Garmin employee or attacking them?  Not to make a stereotype, but does the word 'attack' have a different meaning across the Atlantic?   I won't say what side I'm on, but after years of being on these forums I can say one side is very quick to use the word.  Almost like a get out of jail card.

  • I wonder the same thing. Never uderstood why people try to silence other people that disagree with. Maybe that is considered normal course of discussion across Atlantic. But I doubt it.

Again, and no offense, but no one tried to silence you on anything you haven't said before.  It was clearly stated that your point of view was heard several times.  If you have something new to bring to this thread then that is great.   Everyone knows you feel entitled to have the newer features found on the FR955 on your F7.  You explained why you think the timeline when the two watches were released makes a difference, why the price between the two makes a difference and that you believe the base model Fenix is part of Garmin's "flagship" line and it should have any features a Forerunner watch has and if you don't get these features, you feel there's a group of customers that have been mistreated by Garmin.  Did I miss anything?

  • Yes tou did. You told me stop writing, compared me to broken record, parrot etc. And then you wonder how it came across as attacking.

The main point, which is misrepresented here, is that I do not believe and feel as you said, I simply said that product of higher price has lower specs than cheaper product launched after 4-5 months, and that is the fact. You dislike it and try to rationalize it your way. Fine. We disagree.

  • Might feel better seeing this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3evf59dv1Y I am waiting for my 955 to arrive tomorrow and seeing this is a bit deflating. Software seems much better on the Fenix 7. Admittedly im hoping this will be fixed with software upgrade but for now it looks better to have an F7.

  • Mmmhh... Not a Fenix 7 base or solar model, though... You have to have the sapphire!

(Just trying to revive the discussion, this thread has been really fun for quite some time........)

  • Ultimately this is why I returned my FR955 and ordered a F7. I await the promised updates...

  • Friend owns a running store and is a Garmin dealer, I looked at the 955, it felt cheap compared to my Fenix 7.

Most Garmin watches, including Fenix 7, and Fenix 6 before that, had a lot of UI bugs and problems at launch. The vast majority get fixed within the first few months. 955 will be no different - I'm sure it will be a fantastic watch once the kinks get ironed out.

Well, ya. That's why it costs $300 less than the equivalent Fenix 7. Some people prefer the "cheap" plastic case over the metal Fenix because of weight concerns; that's why I'll be getting a 955 soon for my son, because the Fenix 6 I gave him is way too heavy for him. Others simply can't justify spending $300 more for a watch that has the same core features. For myself, I do prefer the heavy weight and ruggedness of the Fenix 7, like you; and I'm fine spending a premium for that.
