Fenix 7 Base vs 955, are you kidding me?

Reducing the price is amazing, congrats to everyone that is able to score such a fantastic ecosystem and watch.

But now I feel duped buying the base Fenix 7.

The 955 is $200 less than the base Fenix 7.

The 955 basically has the same screen. [Not really a complaint I suppose, but I'm reaching for any sort of "upgrade" the $700 Fenix has over the $500 955)

The 955 has 2x as much memory, are you serious? The base Fenix 7 has 16gb and the 955 ($200 less!) has 32gb.

The 955 has multi-band the base Fenix 7 does not.

The memory and multi-band are the largest slaps in the face. The furthest stretch I can reach for is I paid $200 more for less memory in exchange for ~10 more hours of GPS time.

  • Thanks for the feedback! I actually have no need to upgrade my Fenix 6x pro solar at the moment, however I do miss the screen clarity of my former Fenix 6 base model. Understand legibility is not an issue on f7x SS, and ita not also on my f6x solar, but still the base looked better and more crispy. In fact, I really wish there was a F7x with plain gorilla glass, no solar, no sapphire... Advantage of Tactix is that at least there is a version with no solar

I will have to check my watch side by side with a 7x to judge...

But sorry, this should be primarily fr955 features thread, just interesting to talk also about this

  • Interesting. It shows a few software limitations in the 955. I believe some of them will be resolved in futures updates, but software wise seems to be better in fenix 7

  • Just to be clear: when put side by side 6X Sap and 7X SS, the former is crispier. For me lack of sapphire is a dealbreaker and presence of solar is a drawback but not a dealbreaker.

Maybe you’ll like better the Epix 2? For my taste is a bit smaller.

  • Just to be clear: when put side by side 6X Sap and 7X SS, the former is crispier.

Maybe by a little bit, but it's not nearly as extreme as many people say it is. The way some people talk about it, they make it sound like the 6X Sapphire is crystal clear and you can barely read the 7X Sapphire display.

I own both watches. I can barely tell the difference.

  • I sold my 6X Sap a couple of weeks ago and I bought 7X SS the last day of January. So, I’m well aware of the differences between the two screens. There’s definitely a difference and 6X Sap is crispier. For me the legibility of 7X SS is totally fine and as I mentioned I have zero problems with it.

  • Thanks skifun and c.sco, for clarity (maybe in some messages I was exaggerating a bit for the fun) not saying in fact that is terrible, absolutely, but there is a difference. The main thing is that I used (and still have, can't convince myself to sell it Slight smile ) the Fenix 7 base and that is substantially crisper than the 6x prosolar - to be fair... This is barely visible in excellent to good light, but quite evident as light gets dimmer. On the flip side, when light is low and I use the backlight the 6x solar is way less washed out, looks very nice while the standard looks quite crappy.

I can't really convince myself to an amoled watch either, it's obviously spectacular, I see that, but to my "old man" taste does not feel like a real watch as it shines it's own light (I know, I know, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder)

I have only seen a 7xss in a shop (very strong neon light, everything looked shiny and perfect, not a good place for a comparison), or in very sunny conditions (from couple of people I know), and so I still had doubts.

Understand this does not make sense but I do wish there was a 7x with only gorilla glass...

But again many many thanks for taking the time to feedback, and... It really is not acceptable that fr 955 has more features that Fenix 7 base (needed to get back in the thread topic Smiley)

  • Thanks for chatting and if you buy a new one let us know about your customer satisfaction. Never seen 7 base in person but I’m pretty sure it’s an awesome watch. But then again, I like forunners, fenixes and instincts and I’m kind of biased. If I didn’t hate wearing a watch on my right wrist, I’d definitely buy a 995 or Suunto 9 peak for it. But I reserve my right to buy 255/955 for presents.

  • Well yeah 7 base is still a great watch, that's out of the question, and among all Fenix 7 line it should be the nearest to my desire to have nothing but the very transparent gorilla glass above the display (it still has the digitizer for the touch function if compared to Fenix 6, but that should not have big impact.

However, even without needing all the battery and having a relatively normal-to-small wrist size, I can't help but like the bold 51 mm size. And I would also loose the torch with the base model, which is a real bummer.

Plus... After all this talking here, if a get a F7 base at 700euro i would need to change my username and pretend I never posted before :D but in case I find a sub 500euro deal I will probably buy it

  • So any insider info if we get HRV status, training readiness, run power, etc… soon?

  • I love these type of polls.  What's the point?   "Hey, does anyone want something for free?".  Of course those that will use it will vote that they want it and those who won't use it don't care.  Does anyone believe there is someone out there who doesn't want free features added on their watch?  Lol.
