Fenix 7 Bug: Distance wrong, but map correct when using Max Battery power mode

Forgot to charge watch before going for a cycle, was showing 3 hours duration, changed power mode to Max Battery, that then showed 11 hours.

Went with that option but after the 40 mile cycle, with some stops, the watch only showed a distance of 15 miles. When uploaded to Connect the map was correct showing all full route in at a good resolution: The speed looks reasonable, but the moving time did not look right.

When the ride came up on Strava I selected the Distance Correction, which then showed the 39.77 miles, but the moving time was also wrong as the average speed was 25mph and while I would like that to be the case it definitely wasn't as this was a very leisurely cycle.

Is this a known issue?

  • Battery Saver mode doesn’t have a specific GPS setting so perhaps safe to assume it uses system default. Wonder if the mode affects the recording interval of the data points. However, given Strava adjusted the distance to what you would expect it might appear that the information was in the file. Would be good to dive into the .fit file for the activity and see what was recorded.

  • I have similar problem with Max Battery mode. I have been using it for running, swimming, and cycling for some time. The location and distance tracking are smooth and accurate when Power Mode: Normal battery mode and Satellite:All System are chosen. However, when I tried outdoor activity tracking using PowerMode:Max Battery and Satellite: GPS only. The distance recorded is way shorter than the actual distance on the map. The recorded route/journey looks fine on the map but the distance recorded is only 45km instead of the actual 120km. I hope the Garmin team can dive into it and resolve this bug.
