Restore a deleted app/function on Garmin watch

I have a Quatix 7X Solar.

One of the watch's native apps/functions, the MFD remote, would not update, so I removed it with the intent of doing a fresh reinstall.

However, I cannot find the app again to reinstall it.

I have already tried via the watch itself, the Connect and Connect IQ apps on my Android phone and Garmin Express on Windows PC, however the MFD remote app is nowhere to be found.

I have also tried resetting the watch, which just deletes all the data and resets the setting, but does not restore to the factory out-of-the-box state in fact it kept the latest firmware update and it did not restore the missing app.

Is there a way to restore the watch to the original factory out-of-the-box state or to restore the MFD remote app/function?

  • Have you tried the "Unprompted Reset" described in the following Garmin Support article:

How to Reset My Garmin Outdoor Watch

There are a few instances in which a watch may need to be reset. These include the the following:

    • The watch is not receiving a satellite signal.
    • To restore the watch to default factory settings.
    • The watch is not functioning properly.

Performing a reset will erase some user data.1

Learned fitness values, for advanced fitness metrics, including: VO2 max, Training Effect, and more will be reset during this process. The watch will need to relearn this data after performing a reset. This information will be restored once you sync with Garmin Connect if your watch supports Physio TrueUp, see What is Physio TrueUp?.

If your watch is paired to your phone, you will need to pair the watch back to the phone after resetting. The watch may need to be removed from Garmin Connect app before you can pair again, see Instructions to Remove and Add a Device in the Garmin Connect App.

    Performing a Reset

    1. Ensure the watch is powered off.2
    2. Press and hold Back/Lap.
    3. Power on the watch while continuing to hold Back/Lap.
    4. Release Back/Lap once the Clear user data? message appears.
    5. Select Yes.

The reset is successful if the watch finishes powering up and goes through initial setup. Try the steps again if initial setup does not appear. Following the reset, place the watch outside with a clear view of the sky for a minimum of 20 minutes to acquire satellite data.

If the reset does not work, another method to reset the watch can be tried. Select the heading below for steps on the secondary reset.

    Unprompted Reset

    1. Ensure the watch is powered off.2
    2. Press and hold the Down, Start, and Back buttons.
    3. Power the watch on while holding these buttons.
    4. After the first beep release the Start button.
    5. After the second beep release the remaining buttons.

The watch should now be reset.

User data consists of activity history, waypoints, courses, routes and tracks.

If the watch will not power off, press and hold Light until the screen goes blank. This causes the watch to power off and should only be used when a normal power down is not possible.

  • Tried that too...it's the same as other reset...it just deletes data and user settings.

  • Garmin has this marketing policy of selling apps as a "premium" on more expensive models. It is ridiculous. What justifies paying more for a premium model should be hardware stuff only. Like smartphones: you can buy a better device (better chips, screen, camera, battery) or a cheaper one and still install the same apps.

Specially in this case, considering the Quatix7 and Fenix7 are the same watch in different skin. Same goes for the Tactix.

Well, if they want to keep some special apps as paid apps, they could just make them paid apps in Connect Store. Maybe give the specific apps for free with specific watch models, but not make them completely inaccessible for the other users with watches that could use the same apps, forcing them to buy another watch without the need.

What if a customer wants to use boat apps (Quatix) and tactical apps (Tactix) in the same watch? That should be perfectly possible, but Garmin was so dumb to make it impossible.

So Garmin made some apps exclusively for the Quatix 7 and made so much effort in hiding the app from the other customers that now even the Quatix user can't find and install it.

Open a warranty call and if Garmin can't solve it, just make them give you a new watch or you money back.
