Does your 7X Sapphire Solar touchscreen also switch on in rain and do strange thing?

When touchscreen is enabled, be it default screen or during activity, when rain drops fall on the screen, then backlight turns on and sometimes the screen jumps to different menu items. Same under a quick shower, but not when swimming.

Just started realizing this behavior, anyone else has it? Doesn't seem "normal."

Also, what exactly are "Haptics" in System - Sound and Vibe? Haptics when pressing a button?

  • I don't usually leave my touchscreen on all day, I just turn it on temporarily when I want to use it, then turn it off again.

But a few times when I accidentally left it on, I noticed similar behavior in the shower - touchscreen seems to respond to water droplets hitting it.

Don't know if there's any way to fix that, they'd have to reduce touchscreen sensitivity which could negatively affect its performance when you're using your fingers on it.

Haptic feedback is when the watch vibrates very slightly (much less intense than the alert vibrations for example) when you press buttons or tap the screen with touchscreen on. It's meant as a sort of feedback to let you know that the watch received the command. I leave that turned off because I'm sure it reduces battery life a bit.

  • The whole reason why a lot of people were against a touch screen on a fenix was that during heavy exercise you might brush the screen and activate a touch response by mistake. Its possible that rain causes the same effect.

However, Garmin gave you the option of turning it off. So turn it off when not in use.

Thats exactly what I do, I only turn it on when required and it works, and it saves battery not having the touch system energised all the time

  • Yep, and hotkeys make the touchscreen on/off process a lot easier too. By default I believe it's Start+Down to toggle touchscreen on/off, but I've assigned a hotkey to mine so I just long-press the Start button to do it. Super fast and easy, so there's not much reason for me to leave touchscreen on all day anymore.
