Sync wifi says memory full - with 19Mb free?

Trying to update my watch via the ‘sync wifi’ from the watch, it says not enough memory. But on the ConnectbIQ app I can see that I have 19Mb available (actually have only one app installed, the CIQ one and nothing else).
I read in the forum that using Garmin Express can be a workaround, but I don’t have a laptop.

Anyone got the same behavior and found a way to upgrade anyway - without Garmin Express?

  • I am sorry there is an issue.

    19MB of memory is an oddly low amount left considering your watch started at either 16GB or 32GB depending on your model version. With only 19MB, you won't be able to update your software or record a long activity.

    Does this look like the issue that is taking place?

  • 19 MB is what I see in the IOS Connect IQ app (tab my watch). On the watch I can see 16Gb free under the map manager…

    I tried to remove the Topo active maps (the only one I could delete, I didn’t add any map since I got my watch), and now the Wifi sync works.

    it looks like the wifi sync function thinks my watch only has 16Gb memory in total and not 32Gb, and consequently saying not enough space when 16Gb (=the default map) were used. I do have a Sapphire solar version. The above is pure guess I obviously have no idea of what happened.

    bit now I could upgrade to 8.18, and will try to install again the topo map.

    i read the topic you shared with me but that doesn’t seem to be the same issue in my opinion. I frequently do long-ish runs and never had an activity memory full message while I had the wifi sync insufficient memeory message

  • I have the same issue. I bought the 7x Sapphire solar and installed no app at all. The Connect IQ app says I only have 19.66MB left (this model has 32GB storage). I reset the watch, and nothing changed. Thank god I only bought it a few days ago - I am returning the watch within 14 days. You have no idea how long I was waiting for this solar run watch, so you can imagine the disappointment 

  • The free space shown in the IQ app is only the space available for apps. Not the free space on the watch available for maps and other stuff like music (the 32GB part). 
    You will see free storage if you connect it to Garmin Express. 
    everything is ok with your watch.
