Why can't the strap pins come out?

On (as far as I'm aware) virtually every other watch, INCLUDING THE FENIX 6, the pin for the strap is removeable. Seems not the case for the fenix 7. This makes all my existing watchbands which had their own pin/attachment absolutely useless.

I've never heard of any actual durability issues, so I can only assume that Garmin did this to "close" the system and make a lot more money on watch bands.

Not happy. What gives Garmin?

  • I can only assume that Garmin did this to "close" the system

Garmin did this to improve the security of the watch. Period.

Flick back through the F6 forum and find the threads where people lost watches using 3rd party bands because it appears those bands 'pulled' on the shoulders of the pins. Read the various workarounds that people invoked to cover the shoulders.

Now, Garmin have removed the shoulders and look, people complain about Garmin rather than speak with the 3rd party band makers and ask them to adjust their product.

There's already a lengthy  thread about this including methods to remove the pins and replace them with F6 pins.

  • The "method" you mention is pretty drastic....cut them in two with a wire cutter :-)

I contacted Garmin and they confirm it was done for "safety and security" purposes.

If we cut them this voids the warranty (but...need to see how they can realize if then I purchase spare 7's spring bars to restore the original ones.... work in progress...).

Ok with that, but they should leave the freedom to users to put back the "older" ones (Fenix 6's) since who upgraded (giving them bunch of $$) may want to reuse the bands purchased over time. I've +20 nylon ones that can't use anymore, some are expensive and handmade and I can't use silicon's due to allergy and I won't buy the only nylon stretch on Garmin site that costs....299,00 Euro!

So good they did the improvement but leave to us the freedom to choose. For patching a situation that impacted say 0.5% of users they made a change for all the Fenix 7/Epix/etc... users. One off.

    Come?

  • Grazie Antonio !! Ma...come ? How you did that ? I see you rightly protected your watch but with which tool ? I kindly tried with a "taglierino" / utility knife with no luck, it looks like we have to use two and play with them..little by little with one and the others to prevent the spring retracts again...

Anyhow... hat off ! Tanto di cappello !

  • The "method" you mention is pretty drastic....cut them in two with a wire cutter

I made no such suggestion. I referred to previous threads where others have made choices that might render their watch less secure.

  • Unsure about the final aesthetics result, however if they had made the mounting hole drilled all the way though like for other watches (like I think the instinct first generation) so that one could use a needle or similar to push the pin tip in for removal, they would have solved both issues

  • Siiiiiiii!!! Proprio come dici!
