Firmware update Fenix 7X

Hello, first of all I want to thank you all for this forum. With your interventions and advice you are helping people like myself a lot. I have just one question to ask you: I just bought the Fenix 7X, an absolutely fantastic watch. Mine comes with the firmware version. 7.26, the first. I'm not much of a sportsman, I just ask you if it's worth upgrading my Fenix to 8.14 beta. Thanks again everyone.

  • Only if you are having problems that are fixed with the beta.  Otherwise wait for the official release.

  • Are you using maps? The corrected colours are a big improvement.

  • There are some cool new features added in the latest beta that made it absolutely worth upgrading for me, plus it fixed a couple of bugs that were annoying me. But like philip says above, generally you shouldn't upgrade to a beta firmware unless you can tolerate the risk that it might actually make your watch perform worse instead of better (although that isn't the case for most people), and you certainly shouldn't run beta firmware if you've got a very important event coming up soon (a backcountry adventure, or a marathon race, etc). In rare instances, people (including myself a few months ago) have even reported that beta firmware bricked their watch entirely, and it had to get sent back to Garmin for replacement, which isn't a financial problem but it could mean you're without a watch for 1-2 weeks.

So it just comes down to your ability to take a gamble that it might make your watch less stable for a while until the next stable release comes out. If you don't want to take that gamble, then you should stick with your current firmware and wait for the next stable release.
