More than one course during a single activity possible?

Does anyone know if it's possible to activate different courses during a single activity?   I have a 100km race coming up and it's an out and back course.  I've seen there are issues with course markers on out and backs and was wondering if I can split my race into an out course and a back course.

  • I have been waiting for this function for a long time, but nothing happens so far. The only work around is to convert a gpx into a garmin img and display that img as a map on your garmin. For this conversion you always need a computer, which isn't available if you are on a trip. Furthermore this method doesn't work in compination with raster image maps.

I don't know, why the display of multiple tracks works on some outdoor gps (oregon, gpsmap ...) units, but not on wearables.

  • There is no problem to load new courses during an activity.

Load your out course at start and when going back, withou stopping activity, open menu (long press middle left), select Navigation, Courses and so on and you have your back course for navigation. You can even create a hotkey for Navigation to select it easier.

  • No waiting required, this already workes on the Fenix 5 plus, on the Fenix 3 I am not sure anymore.

Yep, this is correct. You can load (and unload) courses on the fly, without ending (or even pausing) the activity. You cannot, unfortunately, preload a list of courses to be followed in sequence, and have it automatically switch from one to the next, but you CAN manually do it whenever you want.

You can even use the same course file for your out-and-back, which is what I always do for my hikes and such. Just make a course that goes from the start to the turnaround point. Then when you get to the turnaround point, load the course again and use the "do in reverse" option.

  • Perfect.  I get my 7s tomorrow. Coming from a FR645, a lot of these features are new to me.
