Solar charging on 7X not working?

Does anyone know how to deactivate the solar charging on a Fenix7X.

it was working fine and registering good luck hours as it’s the summer time here in NZ. After two solid days in the sun this weekend it registers nothing at all. I completed a full factory reset (took me ages to set up all my setting again) it’s still not working. does anyone have any ideas?

  • AFAIR solar charging is not used if the watch is fully charged. What was the charge level of the battery on the watch when you were looking at the solar charge?

Has been a glorious weekend here hasn't it?

  • Along with what philipshambrook noted, I do not think there is a specific menu item to turn solar charging on/off.  If the problem continues when you think there should be some solar charging go into diagnostic mode and look for errors.  Otherwise hit up support.

    Diagnostic mode:

    Turn watch off

Press and hold the down button (bottom left) and the light button at the same time.

When the watch starts release the light button but continue to hold the down button until the diagnostic mode shows (it will take 15+seconds).  I know there is some information on the solar status here but I have not played with it.

  • It has happened to me as well after few days. Once i did full factory reset it started to work. Then it stopped again after one day and further resets did not help. I returned watch for repair and got it back just today they claim all is ok. Solar charging works now but i guess I’ll see in coming days

  • At higher charge levels (somewhere above 94% as far as I can tell), the watch drops the charging efficiency of the solar panels.  This manifests as only one or two solar 'bars' on the indicator, even in very bright light.

One thing I noticed is that if you start a high-consumption activity (like GPS), the solar panels will 'reactivate', even at a high battery %.

You can try and test this by standing in bright sunlight, and seeing if the solar indicator changes significantly when an activitt.is running.

  • well, when I had this problem, the watch was not detecting anything even when I went to service/diagnostic menu. (the battery was low enough to trigger charging, around 81%)

Then after another factory reset it was working for some time, detecting sunlight also in diag mode. ANd then it sopped again after few hours. Consecutive resets ddi not help

  • Thanks v much.  Charge was at 12% so should have definitely been using solar rather than battery.

  • Thanks very much.  I'll have to take it to the service center.

  • Same problem since few days. Previously, solar charging seemed to work normally. Coupled with GE two days ago, there were some updates ready.

  • if factory reset does not help you, maybe it would be worth to try load fw again. I'm not sure if it's possible though with Fenix 7 at the moment.

When I sent it for replacement or repair, the service told me there's no problem at all with my watch, and since I have it back all is still working, but I suspect they maybe reuploaded fw.

also to check solar charing excluding some sw issues you can enter the diagnostic menu after powering watch off. Hold back button and and start holding also light button, until you see watch is booting, this is the moment you release light button. Keep holding back button and release after you see service menu. After you sroll few screens in service menu, there is a screen with solar panel which shows what it detects.

  • hi just wondering did they fix the problem for you? I had same problem got it back for replacement but service told me they don't see any problem. After I got watch back it was working again for about week, now I have the same problem
