GPS accuracy : Default is better than multiband !!

Hi,

It tried Multiband GPS on a 200m track run and it is less better than default sat configuration. I was expecting a better result but distance and track fidelity are not so good like with the default setting.

However, I am impressed of GPS accuracy (default settings) compared to the Fenix 5X Pro I ended returned because GPS accuracy was so bad. Now it is without any doubt far better with my Fenix 7X.

I am in a city with towers, so may be Multiband i snot efficien in this area, however I was understanding that this city configuration was a friendly use case for multiband sat use.

Do you know if there is a solution to see if the watch is effectively using Multiband ? I don't know how to check it. I just configured it in settings.

  • I use All Systems + Multi Band and 1s recording. It’s very easy to see the tracks are much smoother on the Epix/F7 compared to F6 and distance is always within cooee. I have not used any other setting for OWS to see if it is better or worse. Might have to give it a go with a different GPS setting.

    Today I tried multiband.

You are right the track was much smoother, BUT when I diverged from the path by 10-20 m deliberately on a meadow the track was drawn still on the path as if Lock on road had been activated. But it was NOT. I checked it during my hiking. Moreover I found some places where there were some fake positions and in this cases all those trackpoints were placed on the neighboring path.

Sorry to say, but I have a bad feeling that opting for multiband also includes some extra tweak in the background algorithm, which has nothing to do with L2 and L5, but enforced Lock on Road.

I dont state Lock on Road is applied always, but it seems that some conditions imply its use.
