Stryd recognized as a foot sensor and additionally as a power sensor too

On F7X ss my Stryd is normally recognized as a foot sensor, but additionally the watch recognizes it as a power sensor too. This was not observed on my previous watch F6X. I disabled this additional power sensor and the Stryd seems to work ok but I concider this as a bug, cas sombody confirm or explain?

Thnx,

  • I remember something similar once or twice on my F6X and it was the watch discovering the Stryd as an BT device in addition to the Ant+ pairing I already had.

  • This was not observed on my previous watch F6X

Can’t speak for the F6X but this is definitely the case for the F6. There are some lengthy discussions about how to best use the Stryde with the F6 series that likely apply equally to the F7 series.

  • I have always had mine connected as both a foot pod and as a power meter.

  • It can provide power directly to the watch over the ANT+ protocol. If you did a run using the Cycling activity type that would work with the built in power gauge and whatnot.

In addition to using the Stryd Zone ConnectIQ field, you can use a 3rd party power field to visualize power when the Stryd is added as a power meter. I use Power Zones Chart for this to create a workout screen that includes a HR gauge and a Power gauge. Stryd Zones won't do that.

Otherwise you don't need to connect it as a power meter. Garmin doesn't support natively power meters during running for some inscrutable reason. Stryd Zones only needs the ANT+ or Bluetooth footpod connection to work.

  • Thats totally normal and i had it in my fenix 6 too (also on the new 7). Two different "devices"/sensors.

  • I have this too and is sometimes what confusing

  • Only the foot pod is required for the Stryd data field. Stryd recommends connecting the additional power meter and then deactivating it in the watch. Both sensors together could cause problems.

Two days ago, I went for a run using Stryd (installed as a foot sensor) and afterwards, in Powercenter and the Stryd app, all the info of the run was present.

Today, just before I wanted to start running, I got a message on my Fenix 7X  indicating that a powermeter was discovered and asking me if I wanted to connect the powermeter (Stryd) with the watch. Since I have Stryd installed as a foot sensor, I did not connect the powermeter with the watch.

Unfortunately, after the run, the run was not vissible in Powercenter and Stryd app... In the Garmin app, the Stryd symbol was visible in my run summary, so Stryd was used for pace and distance.

Tonight, I installed the Stryd as a power sensor and than removed it again, leaving Stryd as only a foot sensor.

I really do hope that the info of tomorrows run wil be visible in Powercenter.

Anyone who had the same problem?

  • This is totally normal i had Stryd since the Strydpod come out and had it connected to Forerunners and Fenixes and it behaves like you describe.... but now with my Epix 2 i connected it only as a powermeter not the footpod becouse i belive the Epix and Fenix7 is good enough for my needs. I have connected my girlfriends Stryd to hers Fenix 7 as a footpod to see the difference in pace.... and we cant see any differances... it doesnt matter for me if its 5 secound differance.

If you connect it as a footpod you will be able to get pace and distance from Stryd if you want... i dont hehehe
